MERIELLE'S POV

As soon as I locked the door, I threw my bag onto my bed and placed the small chest on top of the table that is found beside it. I stared at it, rotated it, and of course, tried to open the chest by breaking the lock, but to no avail. I tried again and again and again. I tried opening the lock by using hair clips and nails. In the end, I sighed and I lie down on my bed for a moment to rest and think.

     *KNOCK!* *KNOCK!* *KNOCK!*

Three knocks are heard from the other side of my door.

"Who is it?" I asked as I hid the chest under my bed.

"It is me, miss, a housemaid. I am here to tell you that your dinner is ready," the housemaid said.

I opened the door and told the housemaid with a smile, "Please bring it up to my room. I will eat my dinner here. I have so much school work to do."

"As you wish, miss," the housemaid said and left.

I closed the door again and went back to my bed.

My right hand brushed on my bag that I literally threw a few minutes ago. Then I remembered. There is something inside that bag of mine that might help me. There might be a clue in there on how to open this chest. I took it, looked inside and reached for the notebook that I took from the library.

I opened it and looked at the pages. They look like notes. The first few pages were about this place called Devildom. According to it, those that humans know are evil are in there. Witches, evil sorcerers, succubus, and demons. Next is about the Celestial Realm. This is where good is. Angels and prophets are there. I so want to be there! The next page is about this world. The human world. I flipped through more of the pages. Next are some introductions to two angels. They are both from the Celestial Realm: Luke and Simeon. Then there is this man named Solomon who, according to what is written in the notebook, has a powerful ring that was gifted to him. This ring has given him wisdom that he used to make pacts with seventy-two demons, making him the most powerful wicked sorcerer. The next pages are about who they call the seven demon brothers. Those of pride, greed, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth. I am pretty sure I have never met them before, but I found myself somewhat missing them. It must be my imagination. I didn't read a lot about them so I flipped through more of the pages. There is a demon named Barbatos. Again, according to what is written in the notebook, he is a butler of the leader of Devildom: Diavolo. The near end of the notes is about him.

It is written here that Diavolo wanted peace within the three worlds: The Celestial Realm, Devildom, and the human world. To do so, he did an exchange program. Four demons from Devildom will be exchange students. Two to the Celestial Realm and two to the human world. The same was done to the Celestial Realm and the human world. For the first year, the two inhabitants from the Celestial Realm that were chosen to go down to Devildom as exchange students are angels Luke and Simeon who are both chosen by the Archangel Michael. The two exchange students from the human world are Solomon, the most powerful wicked sorcerer, and an ordinary human named-

"Miss?" someone called from the other side of my locked door.

"Yes?" I asked, a bit irritated.

"Your dinner is here. May I come in?" the housemaid asked.

I dropped the notebook on my bed and rushed to the door. I opened it and let the housemaid in. She gently placed my tray of food on my bed, but I noticed that as she did so, she tried to take a good look at the leather notebook. I took it in my hands.

"This is private stuff," I said with a firm tone.

"O-of course, miss. Understood," she said and went out of the door in a hurry.

I shut the door and locked it. Then, I sat back down on my bed and opened the notebook again. This time, I opened it to a different page. I skipped a few pages, but that didn't matter, because the answer to my locked chest problem is staring in front of me.

There is a thick set of pages. In the middle of it, a shape of a key is carved and the key is in it. There is a note written beside it in bold letters.

THE KEY TO YOUR TREASURE: MEMORIES

I took the key and pulled the treasure chest from under my bed. This is it! I will finally have a clue about what happened to me in the past! To what happened to me that year when I was kidnapped! The secret that my parents had been keeping from me!

I slipped the key to the lock and turned it. It fits! With trembling fingers, I raised the chest and looked inside. A bunch of stuff is inside it, but I feel familiar with it. I feel like they are special to me and they contain so many memories. Memories that I really want to remember.
