Chapter 27: Lost Baby

MERIELLE'S POV

     I woke up in a usual dark-as-night morning in Devildom. It is impossible for anyone to tell whether it is day or night in here without a watch and according to mine, it is already 7:25 in the morning.

     I looked at my side and saw baby Lucifer, fast asleep in his baby pajamas. How cute! How adorable! He is sleeping so peacefully!

     I stared back at the ceiling. It is the second day of my babysitting. Well, me and the rest of Lucifer's brothers to be precise. As for Beel, he still hasn't come back since he left early in the morning yesterday. Although, he did send a message to the group chat. I opened my D.D.D. and read it again.

BEELZEBUB

"Hello!"

"How are you guys doing?"

"How is babysitting?"

"Must be fun and easy."

LEVIATHAN

"Fun?!"

"Easy?!"

"Are you trying to make me laugh?!"

"Lucifer just scratched my precious Sucre Frenzy, limited edition 1st class soundtrack that I got way back from their 13th release! Not only that, but he also scratched other albums and anime movies of mine!"

ASMODEUS

"He is too much of a pain to handle! So stubborn! He also doesn't like the clothes I picked out for him! He would look so cute on those and he doesn't want it?!"

"How ridiculous!"

MAMMON

"He is alright with Merielle, though."

     It is true. Baby Lucifer acted so ridiculously around his brothers, but he is a sweet munchkin when he is with me.

BEELZEBUB

"Maybe because you are being too hard on him?"

MAMMON

"Easy for you to say. You are not taking care of a baby!"

LEVIATHAN

"Yeah! You got the action-packed job! You are like my favorite character in this new game where you try to hunt down people who are trying to assault the king of this huge empire."

"The game is set in the human world and everything is interactive! It is so cool!"

MAMMON

"We get it, Levi."

     I placed my phone down and started washing myself up and putting on some nice clothes of red shirt with a blue fire design in front and brown pants with a stitched cherry blossom at the right end. I did it before baby Lucifer wakes up. It seems that no one would be willing to watch over him for me as of now.

     When I got out of the bathroom, I was greeted with a good laugh of a baby. It seems baby Lucifer is in a good mood.

     "Did you get enough sleep?" I asked as I went closer to him

     I went on the bed with him and he crawled close to me. Baby Lucifer held my cheeks and said gibberish words that I could not understand. I chuckled.

     "You're so cute," I said. Baby Lucifer responded with a smile. "I am still wondering why you don't want to be with your other brothers, really."

     Baby Lucifer gave a frown this time.

     I laughed and slightly pinched his cheeks. "Well, go easy on me, alright?"

     Baby Lucifer said some gibberish words again with a bright smile. I guess he is telling me that he will.

     The day went on quite the same as yesterday, only this time, I did not bother asking for Lucifer's brothers' help. Every time they see me holding baby Lucifer in my arms, they quickly turn around and go the other way. I really couldn't count on them on this one.

     "I'll leave you here for a while, alright?" I said as I placed baby Lucifer down on the soft couch of the library. "I will just get us something to munch on while reading a book."

     I quickly headed to the library to get some snacks and drinks. As I expected, Beel was there.

     "Anything left for me and the baby?" I asked Beel. 

     He turned around with a mouthful of the spicy cheesy tart. "Is it reading time now?"

     "Yeah," I answered.

      Beel took a lot of food from the fridge. I thought he was going to take them away, but I was surprised when he stopped in front of me.

     "Let's go! I want to hear the story, too," Beel said and walked in front of me after I told him to head to the library.

     "Those are for you, me, and baby Lucifer, right?" I asked, just to make sure.

     "Yes," Beel answered and I let out a sigh of relief.

     "What are you planning to read to him today?" Beel asked on our way back.

     "I was thinking of reading him this human world story about a goddess who turned into a mountain after saving the nature," I said.

      "Sounds wonderful!" Beel replied.

     When we get to the library, I opened the door for Beel. He couldn't open it because he is holding a lot of food in his arms. He let the food down gently on the floor as I carefully closed the door.

     "So, where is he?" Beel asked.

     "Who?" I asked in return.

     "Baby Lucifer," Beel replied.

     I turned to Beel with slight confusion on my face.

     "What are you talking about?" I asked. "He is right over the-"

     I stopped in my tracks upon seeing no baby on the sofa when there should be one.
