Alexander's POV

Me and Commissar Vandenberg were currently standing on a cliffside observing the fortress we captured. It was now being manned by standard Imperial soldiers. The Death Corps had overpowered the enemy forces here within an hour, it was a decent challenge.

But I observed how the standard soldiers were lazily fortifying their position. It was if they didn't care or were overly confident about their training and equipment. These men are nothing but greedy corrupt cowards, the moment they begin losing they'll turn tail and run.

Vandenberg: What a disgrace, those men are meant to be the main force of the Empire. How can we rely on them when they hardly take their duty seriously?

Alexander: They're in the army for coin and sometimes glory. That's all they want, they don't have a sense of true duty or loyalty like we do

Vandenberg: This is why your father was an outstanding general. He knew his duty and trained us around his philosophy. I'm glad to see you're just like him sir

Father: (chuckles) I'm glad you're just like me as well my son. Your mother would be proud

Alexander: "Let's get moving, we'll take down the last point and that will be the end of it. We can head back to the capital and begin building up the Death Corps again" I said as I mounted my horse and smirked

Vandenberg: Of course sir, I can only imagine that General Esdeath will be thrilled to see you once more

With that said, I realized that I didn't tell Esdeath what the minister assigned me to do. I then grimaced at the thought of what she'd do to me when I got back to the capital.

Alexander: Let's just get moving

Vandenberg: "Yes sir" he said mounting his own horse

We began riding out with the rest of the unit as the cavalry stayed close to us. I couldn't help but admire the tanks, their armor and firepower was truly impressive.

Father: Besides the prospect of my old pupil whipping you into submission as punishment, you're doing quite well as a general

Alexander (mumbling): Thank you, I learned from the best of course

Father: Indeed you did, don't forget to ask Esdeath for advice though. She's developed her own tactics within battle

Alexander (mumbling): I'll be sure to ask, I'm just concerned about Night Raid

Father: Judging by your eagle's spying, they still have yet to find out

Alexander (mumbling): True, let's just take this town and be done with it. You also need to tell me about your worship of the Outsider

Father: In short, I was raised to believe in the abbey due to my village's beliefs. We were a idealistic society so the religion suited us, but I always felt there was more

Alexander (mumbling): I suppose we'll find out when I meet Martin

Father: Indeed

As I continued to ride ahead with Vandenberg and the cavalry, I noticed something in the distance. I summoned my eagle and sent it forward ahead of us. I then saw through it's eyes and discovered that there was a village ahead of us. Not just any village though, it was the last point we had to take.

I'm guessing me talking with my father made me lose my sense of time or we were just very close. Either way, when I saw through the eagle's vision I saw rebels reinforcing the village. I'm guessing some of the rebels who escaped the fort came here.
