Chapter 08: You

"She's a shy person. Maybe I can suggest to the professors to consider Eliza's condition."

I bit my lower lip as I heard Mister Fausto, and I kept fidgeting my fingers like a kitten. Here we are at De Lasalle University this early, and Tito Mike decided to enroll me here because this is his alma mater.

I have no choice but to try even though there's a responsibility waiting for me, and that is the Fontanilla shipping.

"I'm sorry if you have to do this, Fausto. Biglaan kasi ang mga nangyare," Tito Mike apologized for the reason why I bowed my head because of embarrassment.

"It's fine, Mike. Dito ka galing atsaka marami ka na ring naitulong dito."

Kulang nalang ay yakapin ko na ang sarili kong mga binti na para bang nais kong magtago sa kanila pero pinigilan ko. Walang kasiguruhan kung masasanay ako sa unibersidad na ito pero nakiusap kasi sa akin si Tito Mike at nakakahiya naman kung tatanggi ako.

"My niece is this kind of person who is hard to catch on, but she's smart and obedient in studying. Siya ang magmamana ng kompanya ng tatay niya," pagmamalaki ni Tito Mike kaya nagpakawala ako ng malalim na hininga.

Seeing Tito Mike giving his trust in me makes me nervous and pressured. What if I don't meet his standards? This is a big deal because we're talking about the company's future.

Sa susunod na Linggo pa naman ang pasukan pero hindi na ako mapakali na para bang nag-aalinlangan pa ako. Takot ako sa maraming tao pero kailangan kong sanayin ang sarili ko.

"But Eliza, you have to adjust. The students here are younger than you, but I'm sure you will have a great time with them," he assured me, and I just forced a smile as an answer. Can I really have a great time?

Even though I'm doubting, it's still interesting that I will enter college at the age of twenty-six. Mister Fausto is right that I need to adjust to this kind of environment, and I must take the chance for the better.

When I was in high school, I almost stopped studying because of my classmates. They keep bullying and harassing me. I keep my mouth shut because of fear that they might hurt me even more. My parents didn't do anything about the issue, that's why I kept myself in the dark alone.

"Thank you very much, Fausto. Kakausapin ko nalang si Eliza para sa susunod na Linggo e' handa na siya," paalam ni Tito Mike at do'n na nga natapos ang kwentuhan nila.

Tumayo na ako at sumunod naman si Tito Mike para makaalis na sa opisina ni Mister Fausto. Unti-unting nabubuo ang katahimikan sa aming dalawa pero kaagad ko itong binasag dahil hindi na ako mapakali.

"Would it be bad if I will just study at home?" I asked, and I immediately saw his brows furrowed because of my question. I'm just asking because I think it will be better if I will just do home-study instead of going to school.
