"Me van a detener, hija mía, pero te prometo que volveré por ti. Hacer que me sienta orgulloso." The message played over and over in her head, her heart dropping as tears started running down her face.
They took her father.
She always new it was a risk, everyone knew but she had never prepared for it. All her worst fears were becoming reality, she wasn't ready for this.
She wasn't ready to raise herself, he had came here for a better life but what was a better life without her padré? He fought so hard for her, everything he did was for her. She couldn't live without him, he was all she had left. The only person who supported her in everything she did was being taken away from her.
She had sat down and cried for weeks.
What was she supposed to do? She was scared, her papá was her biggest support system. Her Mama didn't give a shit about her and her brother was to young. She didn't know how to she would be able to do this alone.
"Don't give up mija, never give up." Her father use to tell her everytime she came home crying about something she couldn't accomplish but he gave her the strength to get back on her feet and try again.
And that's exactly what she would have to do.
Except, she had to learn to be able to do it alone this time.

-This is a very serious topic and these are things that actually happen! Families get separated all the time. Being an undocumented immigrant above age in the united states is illegal and you can get in serious trouble for it, it is not a joke. I have met so many ignorant people who actually joke about the situation and it is no where near funny. This is heartbreaking and scary, think of all the parents being forced away from their children. I take this situation very seriously, I have friends and family who've suffered from these types of situations and it hurts my heart! Please be mindful to all people of color, we struggle so much and do not deserve the hate we receive.
