CHAPTER FOUR

-: sixth year :-

── IN WHICH THE CHAMPIONS ARE CHOSEN

. . .

Elodie felt a pressure taken off of her shoulders when she had told Madame Maxime that she had entered, but now nerves rested there, as she waited for the feast that night.

And it seemed that everyone else that had entered was feeling the same way. Nobody was unable to sit still, and Elodie and Fleur had managed to walk around the whole castle before it came to time for dinner.

The feast was just as magnificent as the one from the night before, but this time, the whole hall was filled with a tension and desperation for the feast to be over and to see who would be representing the schools.

Overnight, the hall had been decorated for the Halloween night, and Elodie looked around with a smile on her face, the orange decorations reminding her of the days she spent before she attended Beauxbatons, joining her muggle friends in trick or treating.

A tradition not favoured by the wizarding world, but it didn't matter, seeing as Elodie was always going to be in school when Halloween came around. But still, the giant carved pumpkins made her smile, as the food appeared on the golden platters in front of them.

They ate just as well as they had the night before - but Elodie was sure everyone was eating so much quicker, and she tried to keep up without giving herself stomach ache and gobbling.

She finished eating before many others anyways, far too nervous to eat much anyways. The nerves had taken away many people's appetites, as it seemed Fleur was pushing her chicken around her plate, and many others were doing the same.

The food eventually disappeared, and everyone turned to look as Dumbledore rose to his feet, a content look on his face. "Well, the goblet is almost ready to make its decision," The headmaster announced.

"I estimate that it requires one more minute. Now, when the champions' names are called, I would ask them please to come up to the top of the Hall, walk along the staff table, and go through into the next chamber" - he indicated the door behind the staff table - "where they will be receiving their first instructions."

Elodie and Fleur nodded in sync, and Elodie glanced at her best friend, wondering whether she would be as happy for her if she got the place, as Elodie would be for her. The Beaumont girl had almost every hope that she would be, but Fleur could be a bit competitive.

With a long, sweeping wave of his wand, Dumbledore extinguished the candles, creating a state of darkness, that was only lit by the Goblet, and the various candles within the carved pumpkins. Students around them seemed to be counting down, waiting for whatever would happen when a name would be pulled out.

Then the flames turned red, making them jump out of their skin. Then, a flame shot out, and with it, a piece of parchment. Dumbledore easily caught it, and read it out loud. "The champion for Durmstrang," he read, in a strong, clear voice, "will be Viktor Krum."

Elodie joined in with the applause, watching as the famous Quidditch player rose to his feet and walked up to the front of the hall, through the door that Dumbledore had pointed them out.

Elodie's stomach was a pit of nerves, twisting and turning it's self into knots and back out again. Next would be Beauxbatons, she was sure of it. Which meant that she would find out if it was her or not.

Waiting for the flame to turn red once more, Elodie felt sick, clenching her fists under the table, trying to not look too nervous on the outside.

It eventually did so, and the girl's stomach lurched, watching as the folded piece of parchment floated down into Dumbledore's hand, who caught it gracefully and unfolded it, reading it, before addressing the crowd.

"The champion for Beauxbatons," Dumbledore read. "Will be Elodie Beaumont." The girl's stomach dropped, thinking she had heard wrong and it was her.

But when Fleur enveloped her in a hug, applause rattling in her ears, Elodie knew it was her name that she had heard, and rose to her feat. Several girls had promptly burst into tears, and she tried her best not to feel bad as she extracted herself from the bench, walking toward's the front.

She caught one of the twin's eyes - Fred's, judging from his expression - and smiled, before disappearing into the side chamber, making her way down the stairs.

Elodie had done it - she was the Beauxbaton's champion. She was competing in the Triwizard tournament, something she had never even thought of herself doing.

"Good evening." She greeted Viktor in the little Bulgarian she knew - having brushed up on a few phrases before having left Beauxbatons. They engaged in a short conversation, Elodie explaining she only knew a little Bulgarian, and Viktor complimenting her pronunciation.

They were soon joined by Cedric Diggory, the handsome Hufflepuff that Elodie had noticed the night before. Waiting for whatever was next, the three continued to talk, in mostly English, as it seemed to be the language all three of them shared.

They were the three champions, representatives for their school. All were ready for the competition, but not for Harry Potter to walk down the stairs, his name having risen out of the goblet, just like their's had.
