"I wanna try something stupid." Jeongguk said as they sauntered down the sloped path back to their cabins.

It was blue hour, when the sun had sunk below the horizon. The sky faded from cornflower blue to hints of purple, acting as backdrop for the silhouettes of pine trees.

"And what's that?" Taehyung asked, kicking a small stone along as he walked.

"On the count of three, say the first thing that comes to mind."

"Bambi." The brunette laughed, "I don't think we've reached that level of soulmate-ness yet."

"C'mon." Jeongguk urged, "I want to try."

Taehyung gave in, but not only until he had reached out and found the boy's hand, interlacing their fingers. "Anything for you." He grinned.

The ravenette made a face at him, but continued without being fazed.

"Three."

"Two."

"One."

"Cupcakes." He announced proudly.

"That one time when the staff at the airport check-in told me to have a safe flight and I responded with you too."

"Tae." Jeongguk fought back laughter. "I expected one word!"

"You said the first thing that comes to mind!" The brunette argued, admiring the way Jeongguk's nose scrunched up cutely when he smiled too wide. "And I think about how embarrassing I am all the damn time."

Jeongguk laughed, not minding when Taehyung lifted his hand and pressed the back of it against his cheek.

"Don't do that. My hands are cold." The ravenette said, trying to hide the blush on his face when his hand grazed the corner of Taehyung's lips.

"I'm warming them up for you." Taehyung told him airily. The boy snorted in response. "Do you wanna try another round? First thing that comes to mind?" He asked as they neared their cabins.

Suddenly Jeongguk's aura had shifted. He pulled on Taehyung's hold urgently. "Y-yeah but can we not..."

"Hm?"

"Let go."

The ravenette broke free and stuffed his hands into his pockets, eyes glued to the ground.

Taehyung looked up and saw Jeongguk's father standing at their doorstep. He didn't notice at the approaching pair, but it sure caused shivers to travel down Taehyung's spine.

This sudden wave of hollowness washed over him, his hands empty without the ravenette's to intertwine with. Their moment of bliss ending so abruptly.

Right. Taehyung felt his chest tighten with heartache. You're not mine to begin with. Better not give people the wrong idea.

"Taehyung." Jeongguk shot him a worried look, sensing his unease. "When we get inside, okay? I'll let you hold my hand inside."

Taehyung didn't answer. In fact, he could feel himself getting choked up.

"Tae?"

"It's fine."

"Hey." Junseo called from where he was standing, forcing Jeongguk's attention to momentarily leave Taehyung. "I was waiting for you to come back."

"Yeah um." The ravenette performed a couple quick nods. "We're actually having another sleepover."

Junseo gaze fell onto Taehyung, who wanted so desperately to disappear. There was disappointment on the father's face when he spoke. "Oh. Well then, okay. Have fun."

"Yeah yeah thanks." Jeongguk instantly turned back to the person he cared the most about, who was already twisting the door knob. "Tae..."

The brunette couldn't even look at him in the eye, knowing that seeing Jeongguk's face would surely break him.

Madeline, Yoongi and Hoseok were already in the living room area, sharing snacks when the door swung open.

"Y'all want some..." Madeline trailed off when she saw the somber expressions on both of the boys' faces, "... goldfish?"

Taehyung flung himself up the stairs, not bothering to explain to his friends what the hell was going on. All he could think of was finding comfort in the one person he never had to be afraid of losing.

"Jin."

"Woah—" Seokjin barely had any time to register what was happening before his brother had thrown himself into his chest, sobs ripping from his throat. "Tae? What's wrong?"

"Jeongguk." Taehyung blurted out, "He's my soulmate."

"That's... great?" Seokjin spoke slowly, arms wrapping around the brunette's shoulders on brotherly instinct. "I don't understand why you're crying."

"No I mean he's actually my soulmate."

Confused, Seokjin waddled over to his bedroom door, the brunette still clinging onto him as he nudged the door shut. Taehyung was grateful for the privacy.

"I don't get it?" Seokjin frowned, then he gestured towards his bed. "Come. Sit with me."

And that was how Taehyung started his rant, strings of words spilling from his lips in a fury of confessions and worries. He told his brother everything. Every detail. From mister sky person to the pendant to the dreams to the scars to the cuddles to Jimin to the falling in lo—

Fuck.

He loved him.

Fuck.

"Am I not good enough for him?" Taehyung whispered as Seokjin wiped the tears off his face.

Seokjin looked at him straight in the eye. "You don't have to be good enough for anyone."

"I could've tried harder."

"Taehyung, listen to me." He said, "I can't put words in Jeongguk's mouth. I don't know how he feels about you and how he feels about Jimin. But you need to stop blaming yourself for things that just aren't in your control." Seokjin stroked his hair and patted his head. "I know it hurts."

Taehyung closed his eyes, leaning towards his brother. "Have you ever... loved before?"

Seokjin sucked in a breath. "I'm kinda seeing someone, actually."
