READER'S POV
Whenever someone is born, we all have different traits and personalities as we grow up. We are also born with a loving, caring family who spoils their kids. From rich people to poor people. Some people say every child is lucky to have a family. Everyone but kids like me.
My name is (Y/n) and I have just turned 17 this year. I would have told you guys my last name but, the problem is, I don't have one, heck, I don't even have a family or any siblings who would spoil me and look after me. According to the staff at the orphanage, I was left on the doorstep of the orphanage. They say I was wrapped warmly in a blanket and a note that said; 'Please take care of our baby, her name is (Y/n). I know some people would call us bad parents but, we don't feel like we're ready to look after. Until we're ready, we're gonna come back for her.'
That was 17 years ago and they still haven't shown up to come and get me. So, here I am still stuck in the same building with the same kids but, some of them that I know have been adopted or fostered, depending on if they're staying with the families for good or not. Anyway, I wasn't fortunate but I think that's because no one wants a teenager especially one who's a bit...odd. The reason why I say that is because I'm the only one who can see ghosts or demons. I know, weird right? I have no idea why I'm the only one who can see them and not the other kids but, I believe I'm special and I wondered if that was part of the reason why my parents left me here.
I didn't let that bother me as I continued with life and making some new demon friends. Right now, classes were done for the day and I got to the park where no one goes until I got my lunchbox out.
"Come on guys! feeding time!" I called out to the small cat demons who came out of hiding.
"(Y/n)-chan! you came back!!"
"(Y/n)-chan did you bring us some fish or cat food this time?!"
"We're hungry!"
I giggled when they surrounded me and then I told them.
"Okay, okay, form a line, everyone."
The cat demons stood in an orderly fashion and then I gave them some food which was some cat treats. I smiled at their happy faces until I spotted a runt in the corner.
"Come on, Sera."
Sera, the little cat demon I saved when she was a kitten, came over to me and I gave her some sardines. She smiled at me before she and her friends left. Ever since I was little, I've loved hanging out with demons, except for the ones who tried to eat me a few times, but, aside from that, they all liked me. I think I was very popular with them.
After I fed the small demons, I headed back to the Orphanage and then I walked into the kitchen.
"Hello (Y/n), how was your day?" Ann, our cook, spoke with a smile.
"Boring as usual but, I got an A in Art and Music today."
"That's terrific news!"
"Thank you, ooh, these cookies look nice."
I spoke happily as I tried to steal one of the cookies but, Ann smacked the back of my hand.
"Ow!"
"Leave them! they're not for you! they're for tomorrow's celebration."
"Oh yeah? what are we celebrating? another foster family or adoption?"
"A bit of both actually, we've got two kids leaving us. We have Alex going to a foster family and Damien is getting adopted."
"That's great news! it'll be sad to see them go."
"I know, now go on upstairs and get changed. Dinner will be ready soon."
"Okay, hey, is that a stain over there?" I asked as I pointed at the cupboards.
"Where?"
While Ann had her back turned, I grabbed two cookies from the plate and then I made a run for it.
"Oy! you little cookie thief! come back here!"
I chuckled after I ran up the stairs and then I walked over to Jamie's room and I knocked on his door. Jamie is a five-year-old boy who came to this place last year and I was the only one who he got along with, he was very shy around the other kids but, when I welcomed him with a smile, he liked me immediately and since then we're like brother and sister.
"Onee-chan! welcome home!" Jamie gave me a toothy grin before hugging my legs.
I giggled when he did this and I loved it when he called me big sister, he's like a little brother to me.
"Hey Jamie, how was school?" I asked him as I crouched down to his height.
"Great! I made this for you," Jamie held up a painting and I smiled at it.
"Aww, thank you. Here, I got something for you too."
I told Jamie as I gave him a cookie. Jamie smiled at it and then he said to me.
"Arigato, Onee-chan!"
"You're welcome, but make sure you eat it fast before Ann finds out."
"Kay, see ya."
Jamie told me before he closed his door. I smiled when I saw that grin on his face and then I headed back to my room. I got changed out of my school uniform and I am now wearing my casual clothes. I'm wearing a (f/c) hoodie, a (f/c) T-shirt, (f/c) jeans and converse shoes. I walked over to my bed and I crouched down.
"Hey Raven, how are you?" I whispered as the dog demon crawled out from the darkness under my bed.
"I feel a lot better now," He told me as he showed me his leg.
I untied the bandage and his leg looks a lot better. Raven is a dog demon or in his case a shape shifter hound, I found when I was on my way home from school yesterday. I know the others can't see him but I can and I wanted to help him. I named the dog demon Raven because of the colour of his fur. I watched Raven walk on all four of his legs and he looks a lot better now and I was impressed. I guess demons heal fast as they said on those Wikipedia websites and in the books and movies.
"Thanks for the help, (Y/n)."
"You're welcome, here, I was able to buy this for you."
I gave Raven a dog treat and he happily took it from me. I petted his head and then once he finished the treat, he said to me.
"Well, I better get back to my home."
"You're leaving already?" I asked him with a sad look.
"I can't stay here. My kind lives in another realm."
"I understand, be careful out there okay?"
Raven nodded his head before he climbed onto my lap and then he licks my face. I giggled when he did this and then he said his goodbyes before vanishing into thin air. I stood up from the ground and I sat down at my desk to work on my homework before I glanced at my sketchbook. I picked it up and I looked through my drawings. My drawings were filled with demons from fantasy ones to the ones we know here in Japan.
I smiled at my works before I put away from my sketchbook and then I got to work on my homework. I often wonder if things will get better for me and if a family would like a teenager like me into their family. Little did I know, things were gonna change for me the next day.
