You were pissed.

Another failed mission to take down General Kayne, after a year of his endless tyranny over the galaxy.

For the past year, you, Anakin Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi were tasked with locating and bringing Kayne to justice, yet he always seemed to remain one step ahead of you. No matter how hard you worked on planning an infiltration, or how intensely you interrogated potential suspects, or even how well you fought the handful of times you successfully found Kayne, he always won.

And you, understandably, were pissed.

The morning after a particularly sobering failure to find Kayne, you trudged to the cafeteria and sat opposite Anakin and Obi-Wan, who were eating breakfast.

"Morning!" Anakin greeted you cheerfully, before taking a bite of fruit.

Your eyes narrowed at his positivity, while Obi-Wan just smiled widely at you after taking a sip of his tea.

The one thing that made you angrier than a loss against Kayne was the evergreen optimism of your two colleagues. No matter how badly you had failed, the spring in their step never faltered.

"Sleep well?" Obi-Wan asked you with an expectant look on his face. "I did!"

You rested your arms on the table, your face void of expression. "I spent the night in hospital while my leg wound healed, but whatever herb was rubbed on Kayne's sword made it so that every twenty minutes, the gash would open up again. So no, Kenobi, I did not sleep well."

"That's a shame, pretty darling," Anakin said with a childish pout, before his face lit up. "Are you ready for our sparring session after breakfast?"

You frowned, "Sparring session? This is the closest to taking down Kayne that we've ever been. We can't lose this momentum by distracting ourselves with unnecessary practice."

"Kayne got away, buttercup, and if there's one thing he's good at, it's hiding," Obi-Wan said to you with a shrug. "We'll pick the mission back up at the end of the week. Today, we spar!"

"I am absolutely famished," Anakin said as he practically licked his bowl clean. "My appetite these days is insatiable!"

"So it is," Obi-Wan commented, before his attention fell back onto you. "Are you not hungry, Y/N?"

"No," You grumbled. "I'm too annoyed to eat. Kayne is only going to grow smarter and stronger every time we lose another battle against him."

Anakin slowly nodded, his face contemplative. "It is a beautiful day, though. That can't be denied."

Obi-Wan agreed with him as they each shared a laugh and grin, making your face screw up. "Are you two fresh off a spice trip? How can you be so... joyful? After all the time and energy we wasted with yesterday's mission?"

"Oh, don't take it to your sweet little heart," Obi-Wan said, giving you a wide toothy grin. "These things happen!"

That was how most of your conversations with them went. When you brought well-reasoned stress and concern to the table, they pushed it off to make room for their maddening tranquility.

It drove you up the wall, yet there was nothing you could particularly do about it. How and to who would you complain? 'Annoying happiness' wasn't exactly grounds for protest, so you simply had to fester in your vexation while they frolicked through their self-manufactured field of niceties and carelessness.
