Self Harm Awareness Day

Today is March 1st and that might not seem like a huge day to people (well if you're a belieber like me then yes) but to me it is. March 1st is Self Harm Awareness Day. On Friday in school I bought a bracelet for a dollar. The money that we bought these bracelets with goes to a foundation for Self Harm and Suicide.

This story is complete but with the plot of this Harry Styles AU I feel like this is a well needed 'chapter'.

So, during this story the main character(s) go through self harm, suicidal thoughts, and bullying. I didn't want to write a story that seemed the same in every aspect which is why I made Harry also self harm too. That seems morbid but millions of teenagers a year self harm from bullying, self hate, and just not looking like everyone else.

I feel like no matter what I, or anyone else says, I cannot make you stop self harming or thinking of taking your precious life. Yes, I know that sometimes life seems hard and people tell you to get over it, but you can't right? I can tell you through a computer to stop self harming but would you really stop?

From a person who used to self harm I want to say that it get's better. I know, I know, people tell you that line every day of your life but I'm serious. Last year I felt like I was in this bottomless hole. I felt like every time I tried to get out, I'd sink down even farther.

If you self harm on any place on your body I want you to know that you should stop. Your skin is beautiful and if you want to use your skin as a journal or a way to relieve the pain, get tattoos (that's what I'm doing). I know that sounds even worse but you're scarring your body. We are all made up in unique ways. It shouldn't matter if we have thigh gaps, or maybe our legs aren't long enough, or we don't have collar bones that stick out or the guy/girl doesn't always like us but that shouldn't matter.

We are all beautiful in our own ways. I know some of you reading this story have also starved themselves (like the main characters and I) to get the model looking body but guess what: half of the models in magazines are photoshopped. If you don't have a thigh gap then so be it. If you do then that's awesome. If you don't have the flattest stomach then who fucking cares? I struggled with trying to be okay in my body everyday and there are days where I relapse and tend to not eat because society makes us that way. We are society. We are doing this to each other. We are destroying the people around us.

So, please I am begging you to not self harm anymore. I know what it feels like. I know what it feels like to think you aren't going to make it out of this. That you are going to stay in this godforsaken bottomless hole but you won't. We will all get through this together. You are all beautiful and handsome and I love you. There are family members, friends, teachers, writers, and more who love you for you. Don't try to change yourself to look like celebrities. You were made to be you for a reason. And remember, your 'problem' does not define you.

I love you all and please, remember to stay strong,

Kayla <3
