Meredith: It's impossible to describe the panic that comes over you when you're a surgeon and your pager goes off in the middle of the night. Your heart starts to race.

>>

Lying asleep on the couch, Audrey is suddenly woken up when a pager starts going off, making her sigh in annoyance before rolling over so she falls off the couch, knocking into an empty beer bottle on the ground

Audrey: "Please don't be mine. Don't be mine." she pleads, crawling over to the table to check the pager

Meredith: Your mind freezes. Your fingers go numb.

>>

Audrey: "Not mine" she breathes, moving back over to the couch "Yo." she kicks Alex in the leg, dropping his pager on his head

Alex: "What?" he muffles into his pillow

Audrey: "They're paging you."

Alex: "Ugh." he groans, sitting up

Meredith: You're invested.

>>

Plopping back down on the couch, Audrey pulls the cover back up to her chin, closing her eyes as she begins falling back to sleep. A pager starts going off again, making her groan in annoyance

Audrey: "Oh, come on!" she grits, placing the pillow over her head as Alex chuckles, handing her the pager which makes her throw the pillow down, huffing out a breath before sitting back up

Meredith: They're someone's mom, someone's dad, someone's kid, and now it's on you, because that someone's life is now in your hands. As surgeons, we're always invested in our patients.

Audrey: "Laura Young, 30 weeks pregnant. Car accident. Head CT showed a subdural. Shepherd's coming in. Baby's in distress." she informs Zachary, showing him images on an ultrasound

Laura: "Oh, it hurts. It really hurts."

Zachary: "Okay, wait. Hold on. Stop. Move the wand up."

Audrey: "What?"

Zachary: "Okay, baby's brain is hemorrhaging. She needs a crash "C" while Shepherd handles the bleed. Get ready to grab a rail and start running."

Meredith: But when your patient's a child...

>>

Callie: "Get another unit of packed cells, meet me in the O.R."

Nurse: "Right away."

>>

Meredith: You're not just invested...

>>

Zachary: "Whoa, whoa, whoa. We need the O.R."

>>

Meredith: You're responsible...

>>

Callie: "Well, we need it, too. We're already on our way."

Zachary: "There's only one O.R prepped this time of night."

Callie: "Which is why we need it."

Zachary: "Mine's got a subduraro."

Callie: "50 broken bones."

Zachary: "Stroke in the womb!"

Speeding up their steps the pair begin running with the gurneys, Callie having to stop when a nurse steps out a room, almost running into the gurney
