"You have learned well, Alix. Now, feel within yourself the final word of Dragon Aspect: 'Diiv' - meaning 'wyrm', another word for dragon, the being whose power you are mantling. Now, speak the Words of this Shout, issue your Voice to the sky, and let all see the true power and strength of dragonkind!"

Paarthurnax had insisted on teaching Alix a Shout called "Dragon Aspect" that allowed one to take on the aspect and power of a dragon. However, it could only be used once per day.

Alix drew in a deep breath. "Mul Qah Diiv!"

First her skin became coated with orange light. Then blue-and-orange light swirled around her to form a set of ethereal dragon armor. Her lungs seemed to swell to three times their original size and capable of expelling even more powerful Shouts than what she was already capable of. Strength surged into her limbs and she was filled with a sense of renewed vitality.

If you had told Alix two years ago that she would be meditating on magical words that let you breathe fire or frost, she would've probably laughed in your face.

Well, life was full of surprises, wasn't it?

As she sat on her bed and leaned back on the headboard, she thought of, focused on, the word "Yol".

"In your tongue, the word simply means 'fire'. It is change given form, power at its most primal. That is the true meaning of Yol - suleyk, power. You have it, as all who master the Thu'um do."

She could definitely agree with that statement. Her own father, a historian, had once said that the discovery of fire was arguably the most important one mankind had ever made. It gave them power - or suleyk, as the former Grandmaster of the Greybeards said - over the beasts of the wild.

"But power is inert without action and choice."

That was true too. For example, users of the Thu'um would often go on to possess great power if they trained and studied diligently enough, but without the ability to decide to use that power and act upon that decision, that power was useless.

"Think of this as the fire builds in your su'um, in your breath. Su'um ahrk morah. What will you burn? What will you spare?"
