"You're really close with Hanae aren't you?" Valerie said, pulling Hideo out of his dreary thoughts.
He couldn't think clearly after he'd seen Hanae dry-heave into a bag, and the nurses forced her to go get checked out by a doctor.
Valerie had practically forced him into her own room after he and Kaoru Hitachiin were supposed to leave the hospital after they had their own check-up.
Hideo shook his head before sitting down on the armchair in front of her bed. "No, Mrs.Ootori was just thanking me for saving her husband, that's all."
"I hate to pull out the 'I'm dying' card but," She turned to him and wiggled her eyebrows. "I'm dying..."
Hideo frowned as he looked down at the breathtaking girl that sat in front of him–the same girl who had been texting him incessantly for the past couple of weeks after she forced him to give her his number.
"There's nothing else to tell, Valerie."
"You're in love with her, I can tell."
Hideo's breath caught in his throat, but she continued to speak.
"Don't even try to tell me I'm wrong. I thought it was weird how scared you got so worried when Hanae fainted that night in Ootori's house, and earlier today... the way you looked at her."
"You're so stubborn."
She gave him a playful smile. "I wonder what it's like."
He took a deep breath before he asked, "What?"
"To have someone like you be in love with me."
Hideo closed his eyes and shook his head, but he could feel his face begin to get flushed. "You're nothing if not blunt,"
"Life's too short to beat around the bush," She said, shrugging.
Hideo nodded, and he couldn't help but wonder how different his life might be if he had just stopped 'beating around the bush' all those months ago and asked Hanae's father for her hand in marriage.
