Kai couldn't be the culprit behind the attack twelve years ago.

I was aware of that.

He was far too young when that occurred.

And yet I couldn't let this slide just because of that.

"There's a rumour among the high circle that the traitor responsible for the attack 6 years ago and the one who plots a new rebellion resides somewhere in the kingdom of Titan."

I could not put my family at risk after knowing this.

Trap or not.

If the culprit was indeed somewhere in Titan then Kai being the most powerful figure was a threat.

As far as my memory goes Kai's father did attack our family, intentionally or otherwise I could not confirm but what's worse was that he was slain by Dominic.

Kai not only had the means but also the perfect motive to hurt us.

I couldn't avoid this.

I bit my lips.

What if he was a traitor?

What if he was a spy reporting everything back to the enemy?

These questions created a horrible feeling in my chest.

If it was hurt or betrayal, I couldn't tell.

I had unmistakably bonded with Kai, more than I would like to admit.

His arrogant nature could not make me forget the pure little kid he had once been.

Was it really right for me to doubt him like this?

"Your highness?"

I snapped out of my inner battle as I turned to face Merida.

"What did you find?"

"No suspicious movements your majesty." Merida shook her head. "He stays in his room or spends time sparring with the soldiers. Sometimes when needed he is summoned by the king. There is absolutely nothing out of the ordinary."

"You searched his room?" I questioned feeling a little shame that I had given out the order.

"We found nothing."

I let out a breath I seem to have been holding back all this while.

They found nothing.

I felt relieved somehow and yet an uneasy feeling still remained.

Could this be assurance enough of his loyalty?

My thoughts came to a pause when I heard trumpets blaring loudly.

Wouldn't that mean-

My breath hitched and I hurried to the window.

A smile made its way to my lips when I saw the flags and the sound of hooves hitting the ground met my ears.

Aiden was back.

I had a hard time not breaking into a sprint as I walked down the stairs as gracefully as I could manage.

"On your way to see your brother princess?"

My insides froze as I stopped in my tracks his shadow looming beside mine.

Oh this is just what I needed right now...

"Yes." I couldn't help but waver a little.

"Then allow me to escort you." Kai offered gently.
