Chapter 24

When he came out the other side, he landed onto a skeleton which promptly shattered into several pieces. "Lovely decor," Harry murmured before standing up and walking in. He was in a giant chamber of some kind, and eventually after half a minute of walking, he came to a wide, open space with a gigantic bearded head at the back.

"Slytherin's nutsack," Harry swore, "This place is massive." His eyes roamed the chamber for a while before he saw a passed out red-headed girl on the floor, clutching a small book that was opened on a blank page. "Wake up! Wake up!" Thomas was shaking her violently, and she stirred slightly. She opened her eyes weakly and suddenly they snapped open. "Look out!"

Ginny Weasley opened her eyes weakly, her head pounding. She had been blacking out recently, always covered in blood when she woke up. She knew it was all because of that stupid diary but she could never tell anyone about it. It was as if Tom had been physically stopping her from doing so. She felt like a fool for trusting Tom and she had to stop this- she needed to get rid of the diary.

Someone was shaking her strongly and she finally forced her eyes open, coming face to face with Thomas Potter, but before she could throw him off of her, she saw the snake coming to attack them both. "Look out!" she yelled,

They rolled over each other and came to a stop a few feet away- Ginny had been knocked out by the sheer effort it took her to do this, and the diary she'd been holding had seemed to come alive. The snake had buried its head in the floor and was slowly getting its head out, leaving giant cracks and splintering the pristine marble. "Stay here," said Thomas and he got up and faced the snake, making sure to focus on the body not the eyes.

"Isn't she magnificent?" asked a cold, high voice. Harry turned around and behind him was a roughly 16-year-old boy, slightly faded but not transparent like a ghost. "Stay," he hissed and Harry realised he was talking to the basilisk behind him.

"Who are you?" Harry asked bringing out his wand and pointing it at the figure's face. And he came to view and he could see Thomas looking at him with wide eye.

"Me?" The figure laughed heartily, bringing out a thin wand that Harry assumed was Ginny's. "You really should know, Hadrian Potter, being the brother to the idiot that vanquished me. I am Tom Marvolo Riddle!" Harry looked on confusedly, still unsure who this figure was. It couldn't have been Voldemort since he thought Thomas was the boy-who-lived. "Still unsure? Let me show you!" He raised his wand and flaming letters appeared in the air- TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE. He flicked the stolen wand and the letters rearranged to form I AM LORD VOLDEMORT.

"You're Voldemort?" Thomas stepped back in shock, Harry deciding to roll with the fact that he thought Thomas was the boy-who-lived and it would be better that Ginny didn't realise he was the boy-who-lived.

"Well, not quite. I put a part of my soul in this diary so that it could carry out my bidding once I left this school. It's what keeps me alive and has been possessing Ginevra here and she's been calling on the basilisk to attack and rid the school of the muggleborns. I'm the memory of the original Tom Riddle that attacked the muggleborns," he snarled, pacing comfortably around the chamber.

"Did you honestly think that I would use my filthy muggle father's name? I really thought Albus Dumbledore would help you. Looks like you both are not on his list of priorities."

"I don't need - " began Harry but was cut off by a flash of fire and a song. The song was melodious, and it lifted Harry's spirit. A red and gold phoenix came over, tossed Harry an old hat and flew over to rest on his shoulder.

"Fawkes?" asked Harry bewildered.

Riddle laughed loudly. "Are you happy now, Harry? Is this what Dumbledore sends his great champion? A song bird and the old sorting hat; how pathetic"
