Chapter 71 : Nationals

"Okay! We're gonna drop our luggage off at the hotel first and then we're going to head over to the gym we were able to rent and do some exercise." Nekomata informed them as they were approaching into the area of Tokyo they needed to go.

The view of the skytree could be seen from the window of the bus. Himura chuckled when Inuoka was pointing at it with pure excitement. Even though they live in Tokyo, seeing it much closer was still a cool experience.

"Now, as you may all know the rule..." Naoi said as he turned to the team, knowing chaos will ensue. "...no messing around the hotel."

The bus stopped and Naoi told them to get off accordingly. When the last member dropped their feet onto the hard cement road, everyone stared at the name engraved at a rock. They couldn't believe their eyes.

"Catnip Hotels?"

Nekomata only chuckle and walked to the front of the rock, pointing at it nonchalantly. "Ain't this a pleasure to see? It's a cat pun!"

"We can see that, sir..."

"Everything is going as plan, Nekomata-sensei." Akahana informed him as she collects the balls to the cart.

Watching the team practicing again was a refresher for the managers after being stuck in their houses for the winter break. A lot has happened between those times and everyone seemed to be much better in what they are doing than before.

Nekomata could see the determination in their eyes as he watch his pupils run around, practice really hard, even noting down the new techniques.

"How are those stats going?" He asked. Himura looked up from her clipboard and sent him an OK sign.

"You can do it!" Lev tried to cheer up Teshiro by giving him the ball.

The setter looked down at the volleyball and was unsure about tossing it to him. Lev usually asks Kenma to do it for him but since the pudding head was occupied by getting the tosses to the others, he has no choice.

"Where do you want me to set it?" Showing him the spot, Teshiro noted how it was at a distance with the other people from the gym. As if he got a feeling that Lev chose the spot to not embarrass themselves. 'No, that's not possible...right?'

Tossing the ball up in the air, he jumped as far as he could but it landed on his head. '...right?' Teshiro started to feel a bit unsure himself when he kept tossing the ball to Lev but it ended up being too high, too low, Lev being late to hit it, wrong direction, etc.

"Haiba, are you okay? We can try again until you hit it." He tried to comfort him. Lev just turned to him within a snap with the biggest smile on his face, he stood up and grinned. "I'm perfectly okay! Let's try again!"

"Oh and..." Teshiro stopped him. "Please hit it. You sort of suck at it right now."

"Y-yes." Lev stammered. 'Tamahiko can be scary like Kenma-san, too...'

Taking a deep breath, he tossed the ball to the air as Lev began to leap into the sky. As luck would have it, he finally made it to the other side of the net.

When she saw it, Akahana gasped as her eyes sparkled. She couldn't believe either. After watching them for the past few minutes, she was sceptical but seeing what they could do, her doubts were proven wrong.

"Hey, guys, Naoi-sensei said it's time to do receiving practice."
