Wei Ying was quiet as they walked back to the library. Lan Zhan too, was lost in his thoughts, automatically opening the doors and entering.
The library was noticeably warmer and both of the latest arrivals looked towards the source of the heat; a new fireplace that burned with fresh firewood, keeping the place toasty warm. Thing was closest to the fire.
Lan Zhan sat down at his place, keeping Wei Ying in his lap. Thing decided to join them, growl-purring when Wei Ying absent-mindedly scratched his black fur.
Wei Ying tried not to blush at the knowing smile on XiChen's face, nor the scowl on his brother's.
"Wei Ying has something he wants to say to you both." Lan Zhan said out loud.
Wei Ying groaned under his breath, but he manfully sat up straighter.
"So we just came from Healer Fei. He-"
Before he could go on, the door burst open and two more people entered.
"SiZhui, Jin Ling!" Wei Ying scrambled up, quickly putting Thing to one side and rushing to hug both of them. "I missed you both so much!" He declared. "How is our Baby Ququ?"
"Still a terror, but she's speaking now." SiZhui said, proudly. "She's hopefully still with her babysitter, the little menace..." He pointed to himself. "First words were Baba."
"And Dada." Jin Ling added, also grinning wildly. "And we missed you too."
"Too much." SiZhui said. His eyes were suspiciously wetter.
"Oh, my babies. We have so much to tell you about our trip." Wei Ying hugged them once more and brought them closer to sit down.
Thing grumbled and crawled back into his lap, and only quietened down after Wei Ying resumed stroking his fur.
"But first, Wei Ying was speaking." Lan Zhan said, looking pointedly at him, and before anyone could start talking about something else.
Wei Ying blushed, but bravely continued.
"Ah...um...so, the thing is, I seemed to have picked up an illness, and-"
That's all he had to say for the little ones to interrupt him.
"What kind of illness?"
"Are you alright, father Wei? What's wrong?"
"How serious is it?"
There was a clearing of a throat, before another suspiciously sudden silence.
Wei Ying looked at the red faced Jin Ling trying really hard not to glare, and the bashful face of his son, suitably chastised for speaking out of turn. And then he looked reproachfully at his husband who wore a calmer expression.
"Please continue." Lan Zhan commanded in that deep voice of his, making Wei Ying shiver.
"They won't interrupt...you can release them." He said, but Lan Zhan was unrepentant and stubborn looking.
There was no talking him out of this one.
"It will wear off soon." Was all he said.
Wei Ying glanced apologetically at them, before carrying on.
"So as I mentioned yesterday, I'm sleeping more and more, sixteen hours at the last count. I'm getting more tired, and...I've lost my strength." That last one was harder to bear. Wei Ying had enjoyed being able to lift his husband...and now he couldn’t even lift Rumi anymore.
"WanYin said you were going to see Healer Fei. What did he say?" XiChen asked.
Wei Ying looked at the comical expression on the equally red-faced Jiang Cheng trying to speak.
