Chapter 27

"How are you feeling today?" Paris asked Kai that was currently sitting down on the couch of the hospital room, drinking some fresh water. Paris had come to visit her often to check on how she was doing. She has been behaving just like a worried wife.

"I'm doing fine, I should say. But not as fine as you." Kai answered, placing the glass of water back on the small table in front of the couch.

Paris was puzzled for a second, not knowing why Kai had just used this tone of voice. What could've happened now? Is she in a bad mood again? "Why do you say that? Did something happen?"

Kai turn her head to gaze at Paris with those piercing eyes of hers and responded, "I heard that the minor family treated you well yesterday. Venus even invited you to drink, from what I've been told."

Paris rolled her eyes hearing all of this bullshit. She couldn't believe that Kai was jealous just because Venus invited her to eat and drink at her house. Wasn't that what she was supposed to do with her guests? "Did Pearl tell you this?"

"What if she did? At least I know that you've been having 'fun' with the minor family." Kai was seriously acting like a child right now.

When she is jealous, she can be quite immature despite of her age. Come on! Kai is already a twenty-two year old woman! Why did she have to be this possessive?

Paris inhaled and exhaled air from her nose. She didn't want to argue with Kai because of nonsense like this. They have been doing so well together until now for it to be ruined so quickly. She laid her head back against the couch next to Kai, staring at the white ceiling of the hospital for a while before turning her gaze back to Kai. "The reason why you're telling me this is because you're jealous, aren't you?"

Kai furrowed her brows, not wanting to admit the truth. She only continued to stare at Paris, with no further comments.

*Knock Knock*

The door of the hospital room was abruptly knocked by someone, interrupting their conversation. The door opened, and the person stepped inside. This was no other person than Venus. She glanced at both of them before speaking, "My bad, I didn't mean to interrupt you two. I just need Paris to come with me to continue the mission. May I have your bodyguard back, Kai?"

Kai wanted to roll her eyes at the back of her head just by hearing Venus' sarcastic tone of voice. Why did she had to act polite when she didn't even mean it in the first place? This irritated Kai to the bone. "I don't care. Just do whatever you want. She is working for you right now. You don't need to ask me anything."

Venus smirked slightly hearing this, and shifted her gaze back to Paris. "Come on, Paris. Let's go."

Paris didn't want to leave so soon. To be more frank, she actually wanted to stay with Kai at the hospital for the entire day, but she had no other choice but to follow Venus. She was working with her in a mission after all. She wanted to tell Kai so badly that she didn't need to worry about anything.

The only person that Paris truly loves is Kai, and nobody else. Kai didn't need to be jealous. Paris didn't know how to tell her all of this, but she hoped for Kai to trust in her with this mission. Everything was going to be alright.

Paris still didn't trust in Venus after everything that happened, and working with her was already a difficult task, but she was doing all of this because she wanted to stay by Kai's side. If the mission is a success, then all of these problems will finally come to an end, or at least, that's what Paris hoped for.

As Venus and Paris walked through the hallways of the hospital, Venus realized the dead silence between them, and she instantly knew what Paris was thinking about. "No need to think too much, Paris. Kai can be possessive sometimes. She thinks I will steal you away from her and that's why she behaves like this."

The fact that Venus could read people so easily made things even more creepy. Not only did she know what was going through Paris' mind, but she also knew why Kai was in a bad mood. Paris didn't like this at all. It made her feel uneasy. "No, it's fine. I was not thinking about that." She denied it, but Venus knew that what she said was a lie.

"You know, Kai has been through so much. That's the reason why she became the way she is." Venus told her, watching how Paris' expression changed from being uncomfortable to being interested.

"What do you mean by that?" Paris tilted her head, and halted her steps from walking further.

Venus stopped walking too, and turned around to face Paris to explain, "You probably don't know this, but Kai used to have a girlfriend named Taylor. She's the first person that Kai was in a serious relationship with. At first, everything seemed sweet. But after that, Kai started being paranoid. She began doubting on Taylor of being a spy sent by other gangs to collect information from the major family."

Paris was not expecting to hear all of this, and she was left speechless for a moment. Everything made sense now. This is the reason why Kai doesn't trust nobody. Because she is afraid to be betrayed by the person she loves the most. "So, what happened after that?" Paris was curious to hear the rest of the story.

"After exposing Taylor, Kai shot her to death with no mercy." Venus said with nothing else to add. This was the end of the story. It was truly horrifying.

Paris didn't know if Venus was telling her the truth, but she felt her blood run cold just by hearing this. Her face turned even more pale than what it already was. She could only imagine putting herself in Taylor's shoes, she would be terrified.

How did things end up like that? If Taylor really loved Kai, then why would she betray her? There were so many questions in Paris' mind right now.

Venus turned back around to continue walking forward. There was a sneer on her face. She loved the fear that Paris had in her eyes. This was thrilling to watch. The truth had to be told at some point, and Venus didn't waste any time to share it with Paris.

A few hours passed, and Kai received a call from Pearl. This call was to update her about how the mission was going. Pearl was the one in charge to look after Paris, and she was sent to keep her eyes on her and tell Kai everything that was happening.

"How are you doing over there, Ms. Kai?" Was the first thing that Pearl asked as soon as Kai picked up the phone.

"I'm okay. I just want this week to pass by quickly so that I can get out of here. Staying here is only making me more frustrated." Kai responded.

"Ms. Kai, you'll see that everything will be fine. Just try to stay calm. Paris is doing alright over here. We just captured another bandit from one of those small gangs, and Venus is doing her job by forcing him to speak. Everything is going smoothly." Pearl tried to encourage Kai with these small details.

"The mission might be going smoothly, but my heart isn't." Kai let out a deep sigh, saying this.

"Are you talking about your feelings towards Paris?" Pearl asked.

"Mhm, yeah. I can't hide them anymore when it's already so obvious. Even you noticed my feelings for her." Kai answered.

Pearl didn't know what to say, but she still tried to comfort her, "Ms. Kai, I don't know much about these things, but all I can tell you is that you don't have to worry. Don't restrain your feelings. Love is love, like people say."

"I know, but still..." Kai had no idea how she was going to explain herself, because she didn't understand herself either. She didn't know why she felt so uneasy. She wanted to trust in Paris, but at the same time her past was haunting her, making her doubt even if she didn't wanted to.

"I have been working for the major family for a very long time now. Just by listening to your voice, I can tell that you truly care for Paris. You love her. And that's okay. Just let your heart fly. You've been caging it for too long. Don't doubt on Paris. She is a totally different person. She will not betray you. That's something I'll promise you for sure." Pearl said all of this with a soft voice. It made Kai feel better somehow.

Kai was fortunate to have Pearl as one of the bodyguards from the major family. She was seriously the best at consoling Kai whenever she needed some comfort. "Thank you, Pearl. I really needed to hear that."
