UEM 03: Healer

I slowly caressed the butterfly clip I fastened to the right side of my unevenly parted pistachio green hair. It took some time before my fingers ran down through the slightly curled tips of my hair as I watched myself in front of the wooden oval-shaped mirror.

I stretched both sides of my lips, trying to plaster a small smile. I almost laughed at my face for looking constipated. It's not like I never smile. It's just that... I can't bring myself to smile.

Why do I need to freaking do these kinds of things to please that stupid family?

Isa pa ang Maori na 'yan. She sent me a letter through their feathery messenger saying that she won't be able to ask for my parents' permission because her sister found out that we were going to escape. She almost got grounded!

Her parents are ridiculously strict! At nalaman pa ng bruha niyang kapatid. That's a mission impossible to her.

I clicked my tongue and rolled my eyes before finally deciding to check the dress that I was wearing. It is a pine green puff-sleeved corset dress with white linings. I specifically told the dressmaker to make it just below the knee length so I would be more comfortable.

"Mukha kang uod."

My heart skipped a bit when I heard a high-pitched voice from the window of my room. I got relieved when I realized who it was. I almost forgot that I have a companion here.

I shrugged and rolled my eyes. He's basically a pet. But I can't make him my official pet since he's one of the high-ranking animals in the syndicate. He's powerful.

I heard him laughed and whispered things inaudibly.

"Don't fuss over it, dear rabbit. Just do your part and I'll do mine. You can escape afterward. Pupuntahan kita sa hideout bukas ng umaga."

"Iyon na nga. Alam kong makakatakas ako. Ikaw?"

Iritado akong bumaling sa kanya at bumuntong hininga. "You really think I'll fail, huh? I can make thousands of excuses. As long as they're believable, my parents will forgive me. Are you worried that your beloved owner will be imprisoned here once again?"

Natahimik siya. I can't blame him. Ditching dinner with the Gallegos will be a disaster. Naiisip ko na kung paano ako parurusahan. But I won't let them punish me severely. They need me. They'll use me. I'll use that as an advantage.

Maori won't be able to help me. And it's not like I didn't plan a backup. I knew this would happen. I just really can't miss the mago showcase in the Capital. I know it would be amazing! It's not a big deal for others, but for me, it's something that will motivate me to be a better classic maheia.
