meeting them

moving to the valley from Riverside was honestly the last thing i expected to do this year, I know my mom wanted a fresh start with this new job, but I don't know. I stood in the fresh new apartment, that wasn't all that "new" as I started unpacking my things. I could hear mom yelling things to Miguel and Yaya as I chose to avoid the chaos and just keep unpacking my things.

Carmen- hija! (daughter) can you come check this water thing?! it seems to not be working right!

Julia- coming mami! 

I put down the clothes that I had in my hand, before walking out to the small kitchen where Miguel and my mom was standing. I bent down to check under the sink as I looked at the pipes, I sighed before looking up at them.

Julia- it might just be how the pressure is, I don't know if we can get that fixed

Miguel- I can go ask! where's the paper for the water?

Carmen- over on the counter, Miggy. be careful!

he nodded before grabbing the paper and running out, I stood up as I went to go back in my room, but Yaya stopped me.

Yaya- ve a tener cuidado con tu hermano, no confíes en la gente de la ciudad (go watch out for your brother, don't trust people in town)

Julia-él está ahí mismo, yaya. Necesito terminar de desempacar (he's right there, yaya. I need to finish unpacking.)

she gave me a stern look as I sighed before walking out of the small apartment, only to see Miguel talking to this middle-aged man holding a toolbox. he didn't look so happy. I waited till I saw the man walking over to his car, so I headed over to Miguel as he walked away.

Julia- who was that?

Miguel- uh I'm guessing our neighbor, he's not that nice.

Julia- I saw that, what did he say? we can tell mami and she can do something about it

Miguel- no he didn't do anything, let's just finish unpacking yeah?

I sighed and nodded as he ran back to the apartment, I watched the red car drive off before I went back inside to finish unpacking my things. *later in the evening* after we had pretty much got everything unpacked, mami had sent Miguel and I to go to the store since our yaya needed some Pepto for her stomach. we walked in there and the same man from earlier was at the counter, I looked at Miguel who was still walking to the counter.

Julia- I'm going to get some snacks; you grab what we need okay?

Miguel- got it!

I walked away as I heard him as the clerk in Spanish where the Pepto was, so I headed down one of the aisles where these 3 girls were. they were standing in front of these coolers laughing as I stood behind them looking at the other shelf for something to snack on. I grabbed at least 3 bags of chips before I accidentally dropped one making me sigh. I went down to pick it up when this brunette hair girl did it for me. she gave me this soft friendly smile as she handed them to me.

Brunette- here you go! 

Julia- uh thanks

Blonde- wow you are really eating all that?

Lighter brunette- Yaz! be nice! sorry about her

I chuckled and shook my head as I readjusted the bags in my arms

Julia- it's fine, these are for my brother and I

the girl who was called Yaz spoke up

Yazmine- woah, a brother? is he hot?

Brunette- Yazmine! geez, I'm Sam. I'm guessing your new around here?

Julia- yeah, uh my family and I just moved here this morning.

Moon- that's awesome! well I'm Moon, it's nice to see some new faces around here

Sam- do you have snap or a number??

I nodded as I grabbed my phone out of my back pocket, I handed it to Sam as she started tapping somethings into her phone before handing it back to me. I saw a new friend request on snap from her.

Sam- figured you could use some friends while your here! feel free to text me anytime. I would love to hang 

Julia- uh yeah, I might just have to do that. I should get going though, my yaya isn't feeling the best

they binded me a goodbye before I walked to the counter, I talked to the clerk before paying for the chips. I realized Miguel wasn't in the store anymore making me slightly worry as i walked out of the store, I saw Miguel standing there as the man from earlier was getting arrested. i saw a bunch of teen boys on the ground as I ran over to Miguel who was covered in pepto. I went to talk but he grabbed my hand, and we started walking away from the scene.

Julia- Miggy, what happened back there?! why was that man getting arrested?! what happened to those boys and why are you covered in pepto?!

Miguel- don't worry, okay? those guys were picking on me and tried to beat me up for calling them assholes after one poured pepto on my head. that guy actually saved me, but he got in trouble for beating up the boys.

Julia- a grown man kicked the crap out of a bunch of mean teen boys. I don't think you should talk to him anymore, Miggy.

Miguel- he was just trying to help and besides, it seemed like he was having a rough night. anyways, what took you so long?

I felt myself smile as I remembered what happened in the store, he seemed to catch onto it and also caught a smile.

Miguel- alright, spill it! what is it?

Julia- I just made friends with these 3 girls that were in the store, they were really nice well expect the one whose name is Yazmine. but the other two were sweet! the girl called Sam even gave me her snap

Miguel- that's awesome, Jules! see I told you this year would be different for you!

Julia- we will see, it's only the start!

we made it back to the apartment and let's just say Yaya an mami had a freak out session when Miguel came back looking like pinky pie from my little pony puked all over him. I got a huge lecture for not being there to protect him, that I'm used to. I just nodded and apologized to them all before I headed to my 'room'. i let out a sigh as I plopped onto my bed looking at the ceiling while I land on my back. maybe tomorrow will be better for Miguel. maybe tomorrow I'll even make more friends, or meet a boy? nah, I'm not that lucky.
