Katsuki has always known that there was something inexplicably wrong with him. Before he could even understand what exactly was so wrong, before he even knew what wrong meant, he knew that there was something inside of him that felt displaced.
When he talks, stringing together sentences even at the small age of two years old, there was something about his voice that was not his. The legs he used to run and walk and jump were not long enough, strong enough. His hands, chubby with baby fat, face round with child-like softness, were wrong.
With age, the feeling of otherness only seems to increase. Flashing images come to him in dreams, glimpses of faces and pain and agony. The feeling of being ripped apart, crushed and stabbed and broken. He wakes screaming, crying and drenched in sweat as his head is flooded by a lifetime of memories that aren’t his but somehow are.
Faces of people he has never seen so ingrained into his very being that he can recall every curve of their jaw, the slope of their lips and shape of their eyes. He’s never met them, but he knows exactly who they are. He breathes and their names are on the tip of his tongue, they feel familiar in the shape of his lips. Screamed, whispered, cried, and always so familiar.
