Have you been to Sinnoh and researched the Legendaries there?” Ash asked.

Emmet blinked at him. “No? What does Sinnoh have to do with wormholes?”

“Like Alola, the walls of reality are weak in Sinnoh, easy for crossing into other dimensions,” Ash said. “If Ingo slipped between dimensions but it wasn’t Ultra Space, then it might have been one of the other ones, many of which have entrances in Sinnoh.”

Emmet lit up. A fire renewed in his eyes. “Thank you verrry much, Ash! I will research that right away.”

Ash laughed. “Would you like me to help? I know someone who might be able to help.”

-.-.-

Ash was at Alola’s airport with such a bittersweet feeling. What was the quote from that book that his mother liked? Parting was such sweet sorrow. It hurt to say goodbye and leave behind everyone.

Pikachu nuzzled up against him. Ash laughed lightly feeling the small sparks of static sting his skin. Pikachu always knew how to cheer him up.

He blinked, pivoting as he just passed someone he recognized. “Emmet?”

Sure enough, there was Emmet. His usual white jacket was tied around his waist, fanning himself. The airport for Alola was open air, not AC and it was a warm day.

“Ah, Ash,” Emmet said, smiling at him. “What a surprise to run into you here.”

Ash frowned. There was something about Emmet’s smile that seemed forced. And for someone who came to the top vacation destination in the entire world, he didn’t seem very relaxed.

Also…

Ash peered around Emmet, looking around. “Where is Ingo?”

Emmet visibly flinched and he seemed to crumple. Ash panicked. “Did I say something wrong?” he asked, arms flailing. Pikachu frantically waved his own arms too.

The edge of Emmet’s smile wavered. “Ingo has been missing for two years now. I came here to Alola to speak to the Aether Foundation regarding wormholes.”

Ash blinked. “Wormholes?”

“Forgive me, wormholes are–”

Ash cut him off. “No, I mean, I know what wormholes are.” He had to, with how many he ran into while staying in Alola. “But what does that have to do with Ingo being missing?”

“Ah,” Emmet said, tugging slightly at his hat. “Well, in the last two years, I’ve ruled out human kidnapping as one of the possible reasons of Ingo’s disappearance. And it goes without saying that my brother would not simply derail without any warning, removing the reason of him willingly going as a possible reason. Gear Station is covered with cameras which caught nothing and I’ve run countless experiments to determine it is physically impossible for a human alone to be the cause. That leaves the obvious cause of Pokemon. But the police investigation ruled out Psychic-Type Energy and Ghost-Type Energy which would have been the two most common Pokemon Types used to take Ingo without being seen. In fact, they picked up an energy signature that didn’t seem to match any Pokemon. The Aether Foundation confirmed that it is a type of energy similar to what is generated from their ‘Ultra Wormholes’ but it is still distinctly different.”

Emmet’s shoulders slumped and the energy drained from him.

“I am verrry sorry, Ash. I am verrry poor company right now,” Emmet said.
