2. How It Started

I always thought that if I decided to move away, I wouldn't get homesick, because there was nothing I'd miss. I mean there was my family, but I was never really that attached to my aunts and cousins. I've always been bad at making friends or keeping them, that is. So yeah, I don't think anyone will miss me much. My parents would just miss having a buddy or someone to baby because their older children already had left the nest.

It's been Four months, and between taking care of myself, the bills, and my job, I had barely time to think about my home and my parents, but when I arrive at my rented apartment late after a shift, I start missing the comforting feeling that home provided me and the free time to do absolutely everything in which I'll do absolutely nothing.

I send my mom a goodnight message. Excited about tomorrow.

When the alarms turn off I instantly snooze it and turn around relishing the thought that I have about eight more minutes of sleep, but then I remember why I'm waking up this early and jump from the bed, excited.

I turn the light on and do a small happy dance. Today would be my first incursion to an abandoned place! At my workplace, I met Aaron, who I found out was a humble YouTuber that liked to visit abandoned places. Sometimes would be scary and go at night to haunted places, but other times just go out of curiosity to see what can find at certain abandoned places, the story and what weird object I might find. He would always go with a group.

When I found him watching one of his old videos is when I admitted having this fantasy of going to an abandoned place but never had anyone or the guts to go. So he offered me to go on his next expedition.

I put on stretchy sports leggings and my hiking boots and a big hoodie to hide my ass from prying eyes. These types of leggings always made me feel self-conscious.

I get ready, brushing my teeth and making sure I have everything in my backpack like two water bottles and plenty of snacks and a stick of hiking a neighbor landed me.

I hear my phone ring and I rush to the window to see a big jeep outside. It must be one of Aaron's friends driving.

I grab my stuff and walk out, locking the door to rush down the stairs into the icy air outside.

Aaron was in the passenger seat and hops out to open the trunk for me to put my backpack there and be comfortable in my seat because the ride will be extended.

"Hope in, peachy!" he says opening the back door for me. I groan at his nickname and get inside the car.

Once in his seat, Trent start driving and I say hi to Anya and Ben that was part of Aaron's group of friends. Aaron made sure to introduce me to them before the trip.

"Why peachy?" asks Anya confused.

"Don't!" I shut Aaron off before he can answer.

I wanted to ignore him every time he called me that nickname, it was somewhat embarrassing, though deep down, it kinda boosted my ego. It started one time he open the dressing room and saw me squeezing into a pair of jeans that was a little bit tight but had no money to buy new ones.
