I met Rohan horsemen on my journey. They may have been outnumbered when they pointed their spears at me, but if I had wanted to, they wouldn't have stood a chance against me.
"What are you doing in Rohirrim, elf?" their leader spoke.
Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that. For my father's sake, I wore brown hair, though I didn't cover my elven ears. If only because a human on a creature like Calad would be especially suspicious.
"I'm on my way to Edoras."
"And what would you be doing there?"
"News has reached me that the White Wizard has taken control of the King's mind..."
Their spears came closer.
"... I could try to cure him."
"With magic?"
"With what else?" I replied, and the spears came closer again.
"Saruman fathered a daughter who is half elf and half witch," the man began.
"Yes and she is called a rider on a winged horse, does this animal look like a horse to you?" I interrupted him, "Plus I think she would have gotten to Edoras just by using the clouds and not the ground.""Or it would try to trick us and take on another form. Just like the White Wizard takes on the form of an old man in a cloak and a cape."
That was news.
"On the other hand, why would she do that with the wizard's army moving around? They could mistake her for an enemy. My name is Enewur, I come from the land of the wise elves who have learned of your king's condition."
My real name didn't come out, but I altered my name just in case, mangling a few letters. If they happened to meet someone familiar, I trusted they could figure out the puzzle.
"My retinue is the ones who stayed loyal, and for that, we were banished. Théoden doesn't know a friend from a foe or even his own kin. My name is Éomer."
They all put down their spears.
"Could you heal the wounds from the fight?"
"Yes," I replied, "I have Athelas here which heals. Are any of you injured?"
"The king's only son, Théodred, was wounded in battle with the orcs and lies in Edoras."
"I'll check on him, though the sooner I reach the city, the better the chances, don't you think?"
They decided to let me go. I decided to give Éomer one of my daggers as a gift.
"The blade was forged by elves, which means it glows blue when orcs are near," I explained, "May it serve you well."
