The sun was up and it was time to leave. I mounted Feon, on whom I threw the riding harness, and Calad walked beside us. The birds used his antlers as a place to sit and some sat on his back.

I had my bow ready, my sword, and daggers too. The men set out to follow their king. I tried various spells along the way, which the riders watched with great interest.

A great flock of birds began to form over our heads.

"More helpers?" Éomer asked.

"Yes," I replied, "the ones above are specifically from the ravens of Erebor."

The horses rode at a brisk pace, as we had no time to waste. I sent part of the flock ahead to check out the situation in Gondor. First of all, I wondered how large the army was against us.
