Meredith was absolutely done with this day. Derek and Emma were already home since Meredith's transplant surgery took quite some time. Her body was aching to be home with her family

She drove home and parked her car. She got her wheelchair out and strapped herself in.

"Mommy!" Emma ran up to her

"Hello monkey." Meredith let the girl climb up her lap. "I missed you today."

"I missed you too." Emma muttered, hugging her mom tight

"Hey, you're home. Have you taken a shower yet?" Derek asked, walking up to her

"I did. Thought it would have been easier if I took one at the hospital, luckily it is an adapted shower." She nods

"Great, can I serve dinner? You must be starving." Derek kissed her lips

"Thanks." She nods. "Mind if we eat on the couch?" She asks him and Derek immediately knew what was going on

"Of course. I made pasta." He winks, trying to cheer her up

Meredith forced a smile. "Honey, can you go get into the couch, please?"

Emma nods and crawls onto the couch, waiting for her mom. Meredith got onto the couch, lifting her legs up and leaning against a pillow. She felt Emma cuddling into her side while one of the little girl's favorite shows was playing on the television

"Did you and daddy eat yet?" Meredith asked Emma

"Yes. And I had a bath!" She nods and cuddles her stuffed rabbit close to her chest. "You late, mama."

"I know. I had someone who really really needed my help. So I helped him first." Meredith explained as she started playing with Emma's curls

"You're the bestest doctor." Emma breathed half asleep

"Thanks monkey." Meredith kissed Emma's head, watching the girl drift off

Derek returned a while later with a bowl of spaghetti for Meredith

"Oh is she asleep?" Derek points at their daughter

"Yeah, she was exhausted." Meredith nodded and took the bowl. "Thanks Der." She smiled and digged in

"I'll carry her to bed. You go on and enjoy your meal." Derek lifts Emma and let Meredith give her a soft kiss

"Night night, princess. Love you." Meredith whispered

While Derek was away she took a minute to reposition herself and then finished her meal. She usually would just get back in her chair and clean the bowl plus grabbing a drink but she didn't want to. Instead she placed the bowl on the table next to her and changed the channel

"You want a drink?" Derek asked as he picked up the empty bowl

"Yes please." Meredith nodded. Derek grabbed her a coke and she took some sips

"You okay after today? Linda told me what happened." Derek carefully started

"Yeah." She placed her coke down and scooted closer to Derek

"Wait-" He stopped her and lifted her onto his lap, hugging her tight

"Thanks." She whispered. He knew about her abandonment issues, he knew those were triggered after these events. In Mass Gen they all knew about Meredith's wheelchair and no one really cared anymore. But they went through this before at the start. And Derek wasn't gonna allow her to go through it all again. He'd do everything to make it as easy on her as possible

"Wanna talk about it?" He asks, rubbing his hand over her neck, knowing she is often tensed there from pushing herself and reaching out for stuff that wasn't on the right height for her

"Don't know, Derek. It's as if I don't know anything anymore." She mutters, still very clingy

"We're trying to have another baby, Meredith. We have a perfect daughter and we're both heads of our specialties. Don't let that woman ruin all of this." He kissed her head gently

"What if we can't have another baby?" Meredith looked up at him. She was terrified that her fertility problems would scare him away

"Then we don't. Or we find other ways. But Mer.. I got you, we got Emma and we have a family. A family that loves us." He assured her

"I just feel like a fool. Why did I ever enter that tunnel.." She muttered and stared ahead of her

"We've been living a very good life, Mer. Don't let Murphy or a stupid patient change that. Please." He kissed her head again. "You know where you've gone through." Derek sighed

Flashback

Derek woke up and checked on Meredith. The huge brace covered her body. He double checked her meds as she still got painkillers.

"Derek?" Mark walked inside

"Hey." Derek said, taking a seat in the chair next to Meredith's hospital bed

"We installed the bed at your new place." Mark informed his brother.

"It's not our new place. This is just until our house is renovated and Meredith finishes rehab." Derek said. He had rented an apartment for them that was completely ready for someone to live in a wheelchair and close to the rehab center as he wanted her to sleep at home every night. He knew she'd otherwise have too many worries and she doesn't deserve that at all.

"I know. But it is for now, Derek." Mark rubbed Derek's back and saw Meredith slowly wake up

"Der-" She muttered

"Hey hey, I'm here." He kissed her forehead. He still heard her screams from a few days prior when she had found out she was paralyzed.

"Hi Mer. I got you and Derek some breakfast." Mark told her, knowing she was still very drugged up

"Thanks.." Meredith wanted to nod her head but a custom made brace prevented her from moving much

"Let me sit you up a little more. Is that okay?" Derek asked her softly

"Yeah.." Meredith whispered softly, scared to look at them, feeling like an idiot for what had happened

"You're okay. I love you." Derek softly kissed her forehead
