"Hey, how have you been doing?" Mark asked softly as he walked into Meredith's hospital room, Derek asleep next to her

She shrugged in response, nor sure how she could explain what she currently felt

"How's your bladder? Is it actually infected?" Mark asked, referring to her catheter being in for way too long and having an accident because of it

"Hmm.." She nodded and pointed at the antibiotics. "Bailey gave them to be sure, and because of the bullet." Meredith explained

"Better safe than sorry. How's your arm?" Mark walked up to her, inspecting the wound. "Whoever stitched this could have called me."

"It's okay, Mark. It won't be that visible." She shrugged, to him it was very clear how weird her behavior was. "It's already closing."

He stroke his fingers through her hair, she flinched a bit

"Hey, you're safe now. Did you talk to Derek?" He asked

"I can't." She shook her head

"Why not?" Mark frowned

"He'd be too worried. He's already worrying now." She sighed, looking at him

"I heard seeing the girls was hard." He nodded as Derek had told him how Meredith had broken down

"I want them close, Mark. Some people are messed up." She sighed

"It's been a few days, you should talk to him. Just so we can help you the way you deserve to be helped." Mark said softly

"I'll try, it's just been a lot. And I just wanna get out of here. I'm tired of not being home with my kids."

...

A few days later Derek was packing Meredith's bag to take her home

"Derek, let me help." Meredith sighed, really done with Derek being so worried

"Just let me take care of this, can you put on your shoes and jacket?" He asked, grabbing the last things while Meredith got ready

"How much longer will I need to use the catheter bag?" Meredith asked

"Tomorrow you can go back to your normal routine. Bailey said the antibiotics seemed to work well." Derek kissed her lips. "Ready?"

"Yeah, I really wanna go home. I wanna snuggle up with the girls all day." Meredith nodded

"Let's go." Derek nodded and kissed her head softly

The two went outside of the room and tried to exit the hospital when they saw people gathering together

"What's this?" Meredith asked, reaching for Derek's hand as he was in control of pushing her wheelchair since she was still recovering from the gunshot in her arm

"I don't know." Derek muttered

"We're sorry for what has happened, Meredith." Richard stepped up to them, all their co workers giving her a supportive smile

Meredith nodded and looked down, not really knowing what to say as after all one of the doctors passed away

"Hey, I hope you're doing okay." Kepner walked up to Meredith and gave her a soft hug as they both underwent the same

"Derek, the board has been asking me questions-" Richard started taking Derek apart which started to make Meredith feel uneasy and even a bit scared

"Richard-" Derek reached out and held Meredith's hand tightly in his own hand. "Not now, please. Mer hasn't been sleeping well, she just deserves to be home." Derek said sternly and grabbed the handles of Meredith's chair and pushed her outside, helping her into the car

"What did Richard want?" Meredith asked

"The board has been asking him questions. But I don't care, I just want my family together and I don't care how long that takes, even if that costs me my job as chief." Derek kissed her hand and drove home. He parked the car and lifted Meredith out

"Just let me wheel inside, I got this." Meredith said and wheeled up to the front door, Derek opening the door for her

"Mama!" The girls yelled as they were drawing at the table and ran up to their mom

"Hi girls!" Meredith opened her arms, hugging them tight, her chest strap preventing her from falling over

"We missed you." Emma said, hugging her mother tightly

"I missed you too, I'll go say hello to nana and poppa now, I'll join you in a bit." Meredith said and started wheeling towards Derek's parents

"Glad to see you back, sweetie." Christopher hugged her tight. "How is your arm doing?"

"Much better-" Meredith answered but Grace made the box of markers fall, causing a loud sound

Meredith curled up, flinching from the sudden sound

"Mer-" Derek gasped as he saw her reacting, she was visibly terrified and he didn't know how to ease her. "Mer?" He tried to catch her attention

"D-Der-" Meredith whimpered and shook in fear, luckily the girls hadn't noticed as Carolyn quickly went to distract them and cleaned up the markers that had fallen

"Shh, all is okay. You're home, safe with the girls, me and mom and dad." Derek whispered, carefully placing his hand on her shoulder

"No-" She whimpered at his touch, scaring herself for a second because she knew Derek was safe but she had no control at all
