"We're so glad you're back in Seattle." Christopher smiled as he was playing with Emma

"Me too." Emma giggled, even if she had never lived in Seattle before

"Silly girl." Meredith chuckled from her spot on the couch.

"The food is ready, guys." Derek announced as he helped his mom carrying all the food to the table

"Yummy!" Emma jumped up. "And cookies afterwards?" She gasped

"Yes monkey." Meredith laughed and transferred herself in her wheelchair, already missing the comfortness of the couch that allowed her to lean onto the pillows. "Mom, it smells amazing."

"Thanks honey. Now let's dig in." Carolyn said and placed the last bowl down, they all took a seat at the table

"Are you okay like this, princess?" Derek asked after helping her in her high chair

"Yes!" She nods. "Nana! You made eggs!" She smiled as Derek started serving Emma

"I did, Emma. I did for you and Pops." Carolyn chuckled

"Thanks my love." Christopher winks, causing Meredith and Derek to chuckle

"Thanks mom, it's really good." Meredith smiled, remembering how often she cooked for them. And when she used her food to cheer up Meredith

Flashback

"Mer? Mom is here. She's gonna cook us dinner." Derek walks inside the room after she had taken a nap

"Oh.. I-" Meredith nodded but was scared to leave the bed. Then she had to face her wheelchair again,, which meant she'd feel vulnerable again

"You can stay here if you want and take another nap. But I'd like it if you'd come out with me.." Derek carefully tried to convince her to leave the bed and work on her skills in the wheelchair and finally get some social contact again

"Can you give me 10 minutes please?" She asked a bit hesitated but wanting to take some minutes to mentally prepare herself

"Of course. Do I stay around?" Derek asks, knowing she often struggled to get in her chair alone as she only just started with rehab

"Please." Meredith nods, accepting his help

"Of course." Derek sat down next to her, hugging her close. "I'm so proud of you." Derek said, knowing how much she struggled with all of this

"Can you stay close? In case I'd fall?" Meredith asks Derek

"Of course. Go ahead, you're in charge." Derek nods and gets ready to help when needed but also leg her try on her own to encourage her getting independent again

"One hand here-" Meredith whispered, mainly talking to herself as she positioned the transfer board and let herself slide into her wheelchair

"Well look at you!" Derek proudly encouraged her

"Focus." Meredith giggled, not ready to look up as she felt her balance too poor

"Oh sorry. Focus." Derek nods and looked at her in awe. She made it into the wheelchair. She fixed her legs and unlocked the brakes

"Is mom in the kitchen?" Meredith asked, still a bit nervous

"She is. But first-" Derek stopped and kissed her. "I have my priorities" He laughed softly. "Oh Mer.. I love you so much."

"I love you too." Meredith held tight onto him.

"Let's go see mom." He encouraged her, letting her wheel first

"Oh Mer!" Carolyn spotted her

"Hi mom. Thanks for coming over." Meredith said, focussing really hard to not mess up and look like an idiot

"Of course! I'm glad to cook and I'm glad to see you two again!" Carolyn hugged Meredith

"W-What about dad?" Meredith asked them

"We didn't wanna overwhelm you. So dad is with Mark and Addie." Carolyn tells them

"You got enough? For- For all of us?" Meredith asked

"All of us?" Carolyn asked. "Yeah, it should work."

"Der, can you call them? Ask to come over?" Meredith asked. Her family was always extremely close and she felt the need to see everyone, nothing was gonna ruin her family

End of flashback

They finished the brunch and decided to stay a while longer.

"Daddy, daddy! We going to the pwaygwound?" Emma runs inside

"Mer?" Derek looks at her

"Sounds good to me." Meredith nods despite the exhaustion she felt

"Nana! Poppa!! Gotta come too!" Emma jumped up and down

"Sounds good, princess. Let's all get ready." Christopher smiled and helped her with her jacket.

Everyone was ready and after a while they left the house. "Give daddy a hand or climb my lap, monkey." Meredith said, not wanting her daughter to be able to escape or cross the street

"Mama!" She laughed and climbed onto her mom's lap

"Such a mommy's girl." Derek kissed both Meredith and Emma's heads.

"Anything wrong with that?" Meredith teased and wheeled down the ramp

"Not at all. I'm a big fan of mommy as well." Derek teased

"Mommy, we're here!" Emma pointed at the playground

"We are. Go on, you can play if you want." Meredith assured her

"Daddy, you coming?" Emma climbed off Meredith's legs and reached out for her dad's hand

"Okay princess." He laughed and let her drag him along

Meredith, Carolyn and Cristopher made their way over to the bench, Meredith staying in her wheelchair next to them

"She has so much energy." Meredith commented as she watched her daughter climb onto the slide and laughed at Derek's poor attempt to let her get on the right way

"She does. Almost like Derek when he was younger. Although I remember you were quite energetic as well. You and Derek ran around for hours in a row. Amy was so annoyed at first for stealing her brother." Carolyn recalled

"I remember. She once pushed me off the slide. She felt so bad afterwards and ever since we've been close friends." Meredith nods, thinking about her childhood. "Thanks mom and dad." Meredith looked at them, knowing she would never be nowhere she is now if it wasn't for them to look after her when her mother didn't

"We love you, Mer." Christopher assured her and squeezed her hand

"And look at you now. You and Derek have the most perfect daughter ever. You have your jobs and most important, you love each other the same way as when you were teens." Carolyn smiled at her softly
