Derek had been sleeping next to his wife for some hours. Mark had been able to make it to the hospital and had promised to take care of Emma

"Hey, how are you doing?" Derek asked tiredly as he felt his wife stirring because she had woken up

"I-" Meredith wanted to reply but started to cough

"Shh, deep breaths." Derek rubbed soft circles on her back, handing her some water

She sipped the water and took a minute to catch her breath. "Thank you." She muttered

"Are you feeling okay?" Derek asked her, kissing her forehead

"Yeah. Less cold." She nodded tiredly. "Where's Em and how is bean doing?" She asked him, moving her head to face the monitor that was strapped to her stomach to see how the baby was doing

"Emma is with Mark. She's probably up and having breakfast. And little bean is doing great. She's been kicking you a lot, I was even debating on sleeping on the couch." Derek chuckled.

"Already kicking daddy out of bed." Meredith winked

"Oh Mer.. I was so scared-" Derek choked up and held her tight

"Derek.." Meredith hugged him back. "I'm so sorry."

"Mer, this isn't your fault." Derek kissed her head and they just remained in each other's arms after the rough time they have had

...

"Meredith?" Carolyn walked inside, a sad look on her face

"What's wrong? Where are Derek and Emma?" Meredith felt her anxiety rising

"Easy honey, they're okay. They're getting some lunch." She told her

"Then what's wrong?" Meredith frowned

"Your house got damaged because of the storm. Some windows and the roof need to be replaced." Carolyn explained

"They'll start as soon as the storm calmed down and they cleared the snow from the roof." Derek entered the room

"Mama!" Emma giggled and ran up to her mother

"Is it bad?" Meredith asked and Derek showed her the pictures in return

"Not horrible.. But we won't really be able to return in the next month." Derek sighed

"A month?" Meredith gasped

"I know." Derek rubbed his fingers through her hair

"You know.. You two can always stay with us." Carolyn carefully mentioned

"We'll talk about it, thanks mom." Derek nodded but he really needed to talk to Meredith about this as their house wasn't completely adapted but regardless it would probably still be their best chance

And so it went. As soon as Carolyn left with Emma they started their talk

"About staying with mom and dad.." Derek carefully announced

"I know.. we should." Meredith sighed, hating this

"If you rather go to a hotel or rent something then we'll do that." Derek promised

"It would be nice for Em. And I love mom and dad.." Meredith whispered

"But.." Derek felt a but coming

"But I can only reach the ground floor.. and I can't access everything." Meredith sighed

"I know, honey." Derek pulled her closer, making sure to not hurt her

"But I think it's our best chance." Meredith said after a few moments

"We can try. And I'll see if we can speed up the process of the renovation." Derek kissed her forehead once more

...

Carolyn had been busy all week. They had changed many things, removing some furniture so Meredith would have better access and Mark and Christopher cleared the entire driveway from snow

"Mom, I think it will be okay." Addison rubbed her mother in law's back

"Thanks Addie." Carolyn smiled at the redhead. "How were the cookies? How's my grandbaby, did he like them?" She chuckled

"Absolutely loved it." Addison nodded but they were disturbed as they heard a car arriving

"Let's go open up." Carolyn smiled

When they opened the door they saw Derek carrying Meredith out of the car into her wheelchair

"Emmie, stay close please." Meredith said as her daughter climbed out of the car

"Nana!" Emma pointed at Carolyn and Addison at the front door

"Go ahead, bean." Meredith agreed as Derek fixed her jacket. "I'm okay, please let's just get inside." She started pushing herself up to the ramp, but her body still exhausted

"I'll push." Derek whispered and took over, wheeling her up the ramp to make sure she'd make it without being out of breath

"You popped." Meredith pointed at Addison's stomach

"Baby Sloan is for sure showing today." Addison laughed and gave Meredith a hug, even if it was barely 24 hours ago since they saw each other

"Hi honey, welcome home." Carolyn said, carrying Emma in her arms

"Thanks mom." Meredith nodded

"Let's get you warm and inside." Derek said, his worries still making him want to take care of her as good as possible

"Aah!!" Christopher walked up to her. "Hello honey, welcome home." He hugged her

"Glad to see I'm also welcome." Derek joked as Christopher took Emm in his arms and cuddled her close

"Oh hush." Carolyn laughed.

"I think we'll get ourselves installed if that's okay?" Derek said, wanting Meredith to have some time to get used to the thought of living here

"Of course, take your time. We'll be in the living room. Mark will be here soon." Carolyn nodded. "Do we take Emma for a bit?" She asked, seeing the girl half asleep in Christopher's arms

"Please." Derek nodded and took his wife into his old bedroom
