"Doctor Grey, we need you!" Dr Hunt yelled as she wheeled through the ER

"Coming." She said and struggled to lean forward because of her belly

"No!" The patient said. "Pregnant and in a wheelchair?!"

"I'll page someone else." Meredith muttered disappointed

"Dr Grey is an excellent surgeon!" Owen said, really annoyed by the patient's behavior

"And a cripple!" He said which really caused Meredith to be on the verge of tears as she didn't expect such a response

"I'll page Bailey." Meredith gently said and wheeled up to some nurse to do so

"Meredith-" Owen looked at her, he wanted to stand up for her

"Page Bailey." She ordered the nurse and hurried off, far away from the ER to her office

She wanted to cry, she wanted to scream. Why did people see her so differently?

Instead she tried to focus on her daughter inside her tummy as she couldn't stop the tears from falling down her cheeks. This wasn't what she needed. She wanted to enjoy being back so she started on paperwork as an escape

Around lunchtime she decided to text Derek and tell him that she's busy. She hoped he had no idea what had happened and would just take their daughter for lunch, without her being a burden to them

Until she suddenly heard knocking on her door. The first moment she hesitated. She rather did as if she wasn't here, until they knocked again but a little louder this time

"Come in." Meredith said

"Mama!" Emma giggled as she ran inside

"Hey, we got you lunch. Since you're busy I thought we could have lunch here?" Derek walked inside, Emma meanwhile climbing up her mother's lap for a hug

"Oh-" Meredith didn't really know what to say if she were honest

"What's wrong?" Derek frowned

"Nothing. W-We can." She nodded

"Come, sit on the couch, I wanna hold my wife close." Derek smiled and pulled the small table closer to put their bagels on

"Yeah.." Meredith sighed but didn't transfer

"What's up?" Derek asked confused as he cut Emma's food

"I can't get in.." Meredith sadly whispered, a single tear rolling down her cheek

"Oh wait-" Derek lifted her in his arms and placed her down on the couch, stuffing a pillow behind her back. "Okay like this?" He asked and received a small nod in return. "Mer, what's up?"

"Mommy sad?" Emma looked up at her mother, really confused

"Don't worry, sweetie." She whispered and hugged her daughter again. "Eat your nuggies, they are your favorite."

"Here, a bagel with salmon." Derek passed it over to her, grabbing a veggie one for himself, using one hand to stroke his fingers through Meredith's hair

"Thanks." Meredith whispered and took a bite. It was her favorite bagel but right now she felt like throwing up. The events from earlier kept playing through her head

"Are you okay?" He whispered in her ear and she shrugged. He didn't wanna start this conversation when their daughter is around. He knew she'd absolutely hate it

"So yummy!" Emma smiled

"Wanna take a bite of my bagel?" Meredith offered Emma

"Yes!" The girl nodded and took a bite

...

"Mer, talk to me." Derek almost begged her. "Owen said a patient refused you."

"Yes he did. Because I'm pregnant and.. and a cripple." Meredith scoffed

"He said that?" Derek's blood started boiling. "You're not crippled! You're disabled and using a wheelchair, that's a whole different thing!"

"Oh well, tell that to the world, please." Meredith looked down at her hands

"Mer.. please." Derek walked up to her. "You know that's not true. He's a complete idiot and should have a neurological evaluation instead of general." Derek said, hoping this would at least make her smile a bit but he failed

He noticed how hard this all was getting for Meredith as she started crying more, eventually leading into her sobbing

He lifted her in his arms and sat down on the couch with her in his lap, hugging her tight and strong

"It's okay. Don't listen to those stupid idiots." He kissed her cheek

"It's not okay.." She weakly muttered

"No one should ever say something like this again." Derek kissed her head. "I'm so sorry, Mer. I'm so sorry." He whispered

"I wanna go back, Der. I wanna walk again. I wanna walk!" Meredith started sobbing harder in his arms. "I wanna stand up again as a surgeon, run from the pit to the ER and around the whole hospital." She dried her tears but it was of no use as new ones kept flooding. "I wanna run around with Em. I wanna hold hands with you when we're outside. I wanna go up to the cliff without changing wheelchairs.." She kept going

Derek had no idea what to say. He just held her close in a try to comfort her the best way possible. After this he'd take her home and take a bath together, he'd do everything to make her relax

3 more days of work and then I'm finally moving back to my own place so hopefully more updates as these are a bit short. But college also starts again so noooo idea
