"Derek, you and Meredith really should come.." Carolyn was worrying. Amelia and Kai and Addison and Mark would stay with them as long as the snowstorm would be happening.

"Mom, by the time we got all the medical supplies.. we're too far away.." Derek was looking outside

"Oh son, should we come over?" Carolyn asked

"No, the roads here are even worse.." Derek sighed, hating that they lived so far away on moments like this

"Will you and Meredith please be safe? Is everything closed? You got enough food and water?" Carolyn asked him

"Yes mom. We got enough for an entire month. We also have all the medical equipment she needs." Derek explained to his mom

"I'd just feel so much more comfortable if we had an OB here with Meredith." Carolyn sighed

"I know, mom." Derek agreed. "But.. We have all her stuff here, I wouldn't wanna run out of catheters or something."

"I know, sweetheart. Let's hope we can keep calling each other and that there won't be any energy problems. Please take care of yourself and your family." Carolyn said

"I will. We'll catch up soon. Love you, mom. Tell the others we said hi." Derek hung up

He hung up the phone and decided to go to the living room, wanting to check on his girls

"Hey, are you okay?" He saw Meredith wrapping a blanket around herself

"Can you lift me onto the couch, please? My back is bothering me." She asked him

"Of course." Derek nodded and lifted her onto the couch, placing a pillow underneath her knees

"I think it's because I'm cold." Meredith admitted

"Emmie!" Derek called out for her daughter. "Let's cuddle with mommy!"

"Otay!" She ran off at them, Derek placing Emma in Meredith's arms and spooning them, trying to heat them up with his body heat

"Let me know if it gets too bad, the heaters are on.." He sighed, hoping this wouldn't become an issue

...

They had been napping for quite some time and it had worked. Meredith was feeling much warmer but still struggled as a spinal cord injury meant issues with regulating your body temperature

"Here, grab an extra blanket and we'll start a catheter. I think it's better for your body." Derek suggested and followed Meredith to the bathroom, helping her transfer

She was wearing thick socks and warm leggings plus a wool thick sweater but she was really struggling with her own body

"Mamaaaaa! Papaaaaa!" They heard Emma

"Go check on her, please." Meredith asked as she was sitting on the toilet, emptying her bladder

"I'll hurry." Derek promised and left the room

Meanwhile Meredith finished and started the catheter, to make sure she wouldn't have to think about cathing so often. After a while Derek returned and helped her getting comfortable again

"So, what do you think? Another movie, a nap, some soup?" Derek asked, he was absolutely completely bored out

"Let's ask Em. We should check on the hospital, if they have enough doctors." Meredith muttered

"Mer, we won't leave the house. We're not going to the hospital. You need a real bed." Derek said sternly, remembering a storm some time ago

Flashback

"Derek, we're staying. They need surgeons." Meredith stated, back when they worked in New York

"How? Your battery is about to die!" Derek frowned

"By leaving it upright. Then I can continue using it." Meredith said and switched the settings

"You can't stand up for that long without adjusting the controls, Mer." Derek worried

"I know. But I'll have to." She crossed her arms. "Can you help me into my manual in the meantime?"

Derek helped her out and they were about to set up their beds for the night

"We should drive to our house, Mer. We can make it there safely!" Derek kept trying to convince her

"I don't know, Derek. They need surgeons.." Meredith groaned

"They do but I'd feel much better if you slept in a real bed and if we were close to our daughter." Derek said

"I know.. I wanna be with Emmie as well.." Meredith sighed

"So, are we leaving? Please?" Derek begged her

"Why don't you go home and I stay here? You can keep her safe."

"We should be together. I'm not leaving you here." Derek said and watched as Meredith transferred into the poor plastic bed, groaning in discomfort

"I'll be fine."

"That's it, you're going home with me. Now." Derek quickly removed her electric chair and put it in the corner of his office and lifted her back into her wheelchair. They picked up Emma from daycare and quickly made it home.

They lived down the street but it was rough. Meredith just couldn't push herself and almost flew out of her wheelchair.

"Hold onto Em." Derek said and quickly brought the two inside, cuddling them tight the entire night as trees had fallen, electricity broke down and many more
