In the days that followed, I found myself unable to shake off the memory of the mudflats encounter with Chief Hong.
Thoughts of that moment would flood my mind at every turn.

Causing my cheeks to flush with an involuntary and constant blush. Standing before the mirror, I couldn't help but feel the residual shyness that Chief Hong's presence had ignited within me.

As if on cue, a text notification chimed on my phone, drawing my attention away from my contemplation. It was from my mom's friends, proposing a meet-up for tomorrow.

The prospect of facing those women, who prided themselves on their nosy nature and high society status, stirred a mixture of anxiety and determination within me. I knew I had to make an impression, even if it meant wearing an armor of confidence and poise.

"Ms. [Name] Lee, a package for you," a voice suddenly broke through my thoughts. I turned to see the source, finding myself standing by my bedroom mirror, subconsciously trying to adjust my appearance.

Mentally cursing my own embarrassment, I hurriedly made my way to the door, only to be met with Chief Hong holding my package. I couldn't help but steal a glance at his face, my cheeks warming yet again.

"Take it," he instructed, snapping me out of my momentary trance. With a slightly flustered smile, I swiftly retrieved the package I had ordered. "You work on Saturdays too?" I asked, genuinely surprised.

Chief Hong explained that he was covering for a colleague named Jin Seok who had broken his arm. The name piqued my curiosity, though I chose not to pursue it further.

"That's not very good news," I commented, a hint of concern in my voice. Chief Hong's lips curled into a smile, only to be quickly erased. "Don't I need to sign for it?" I questioned, and he responded with a mock frown, humor twinkling in his eyes.

"No, your face is your signature," he jested, making me scoff playfully. Then he added, "I mean, a face like yours is rare here in Congjin." His words managed to elicit a light smile from me.

"Did you just diss me?" I retorted, feeling a playful growl rise in my voice as Chief Hong continued to grin. "Depends on you," he replied with a hint of sarcasm, causing me to roll my eyes.

"Look who's talking. Do you honestly think you're good-looking? In Seoul, a face like yours is more common than gum spat on the floor," I shot back, earning a quick.

"Okay, bye" from him as he walked out, hopped on his bike, and rode away. His departure left me with an odd mix of emotions, including an unexpected twinge of guilt.

Several hours later, I found myself standing before my closet, trying on various outfits for the upcoming meet-up.

Frustration gnawed at my nerves as nothing seemed to satisfy my discerning taste. Mina, my ever-practical friend, peeked into my room, and I couldn't resist seeking her opinion.
