The first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes was the low light cast over the room. I turned my head slightly to the side and took note of the bedside table which had a large bouquet of lavender inside an intricately designed vase and it reminds me of that's how my wife smells. Lavender.
I reach out to stroke the petals, only then had I observed the pulse oximeter clamped onto my index finger and I frowned.
I blinked a few times not having an idea of what's happening and sat up in the oddly comfortable bed, leaning my back against the stack of pillows behind me. I closed my eyes, my head pounded erratically against my skull and I groaned at the pain. I felt something heavy on my stomach and when I opened my eyes I nearly screamed as small giggles escaping that little creature's lip had my head spinning in circles.
"What the fuck!"
The door burst opened and I threw a murderous glare to Isha who just walked inside the room hearing my scream.
"What happened?" She asked frantically.
"What the hell is she doing here?" I asked pointing to her daughter who for some reason keep smiling at me.
She gave me a pointed look. "It's her house, dumb and do not cuss infront of my daughter." She said picking up her daughter who was sucking her thumb and making weird noises.
"What am I doing here?" I asked ignoring her glares. The headache doesn't seem to go away.
She sighed balancing pari on her hip before giving me a glass of water. "You nearly died last night." She mumbled. Drama queen.
I frowned. I don't remember anything after I came to office to finish my work after my horrible evening with Veronica. I remembered Isha and I had an argument about Bella but I don't know what happened next.
I took the water and drank feeling the uneasiness in my throat go away.
"How are you feeling?" She asked with a look of concern itched on her face.
I shrugged. "I feel fine. What exactly happened?"
She sighed. "You were having difficulties in breathing and then you passed out. I didn't know where to take you so I brought you home."
I nodded getting rid of the wires and took deep breaths to gather myself. The bandages around my knuckles were changed to new. There was a long silence between the two of us and the only sound I could hear was the babbling of her daughter who seemed to be in a good mood after frightening me.
I heard Isha sighed sitting beside me. "You must really love her."
I winced snapping my eyes at her.
"I'm your bestfriend for like ten years but I have never seen you this deranged." She sighed again. "It pains me to see you like this, Mahir. Stop punishing yourself."
