His eyes were full of sadness. "Y/N, please, just look at me." You shook your head as tears fell onto your cheeks, you knew, you knew you had to be strong, for him. His rough hand reached your chin, tilting your face up. When he saw the tears in your eyes Josh's mouth fell into a hard line. "Sweetie, it's going to be fine, I promise." "You can't promise anything Josh." You said, your voice shaky. He sighed, trying to smile, "It's only for a few months, I will be home before you know it." "Two thousand, one hundred and ninety." You said, looking him in the eye, "That's how many days until I see you again." You said, as tears continued to fall down your face. "Baby, please, don't cry." Josh said, his voice cracking slightly. You tried to wipe the tears away, to stop making him feel worse than he already did. "I'm trying Josh, I don't understand why you have to go, why they couldn't just keep you stationed here." Josh wrapped his arm around you protectively. "I don't know how these things work, I don't make the decisions. The flight announcement sounded through the airport intercom, causing you to start crying harder. Josh looked up towards the flight board before looking back at you. "Well, I'll see you in a little bit, I uh, I hope you can forgive me for leaving." Josh said, picking up his bag and turning towards the gate. You watched him take one step, two, three. "Josh wait!" You yelled, running towards him. Josh turned around just as you reached him in a bone-crushing hug. "You better come home." You said, your face buried into his fatigues. "I will, I promise." Josh said, placing a kiss on your forehead.

It was the last piece of clothing he would need. Zipping the bag your fingers traced over the letters spelling out George's name. You took in a shaky breath, diverting your attention from the bag. "Hey Y/N, have you seen my boot polish?" You turned around, looking at George. As soon as your eyes made contact George's smile dropped. "In the third drawer in the laundry room." You replied, giving him a weak smile. George dropped his boots on the floor, taking a few strides towards you. He pulled you into a strong hug, placing a kiss on your neck. "I'm am trying George, I really am." You said, your voice quivering. "I know, you make me proud." George said, "you're my hero, you know that?" Tears fell from your eyes and you laughed at the absurdity of it all, "I'm no hero George. I'm not going off to protect our nation, I'm not risking my life. I'm going to sit here, being a student, living my everyday life." George shook his head, tearing up slightly. "Y/N, you don't know how incredible and strong you are." You smiled before throwing yourself into George's arms. "I'm going to miss you so much!" You cried. George squeezed you tighter, rubbing your back soothingly. "I know baby, I know." George sniffled slightly, "I'm going to be thinking about your everyday." He whispered. You pulled away as George set you back on the ground. Putting your hands on his face you stared him straight in the eye, "You better come back home to me, I'll be waiting." George nodded, his face going complete serious. "I won't leave you here, I won't let anything keep us apart."

Jaymi had told you that he'd probably be able to give you a call sometime today. Your eyes were glued to the receiver, waiting for that unidentified number to appear. You needed some part of him, you needed to hear his voice, to know that he was ok, to know that something hadn't happened to him. You looked down at the envelopes in front of you, the creases so deep, the envelopes yellowed from use. You didn't even have to read them anymore, you knew every word on every page. Brinnnggg brinngg. You looked towards the phone, hitting the talk button quickly. "Jaymi?" You asked. "Hey baby, glad you were home to get my call. How's home?" Tears reached your eyes, "Good, counting down the days until you get home, god Jay, I miss you so much." You heard him sigh on the other line, you hated making him feel upset. "I know baby, but I will be home before you know it." You nodded, even though he couldn't see you. "How's camp?" You asked, praying everything had been incredibly boring for him. "Good, we haven't had any enemy trouble. I'm actually getting transferred." Your heart sunk, "Transferred? To where? Please tell me they aren't sending you to the front lines." "Babe, please don't freak out." "What do you mean don't freak out?" You shrieked, sobs choking your words. "Y/N, they need me. I didn't sign up for the Army just to sit on my ass while the other boys fight." You heard noise in the background, "Ok, sweetheart I have to go, my time is up. Love you." You sighed, "Love you too." Jaymi cleared his throat on the other line, "You had no idea how much I needed you to say that." When the line went dead, you collapsed on the floor, sobs escaping your body.

JJ: "This is such bullshit!" You screamed, tears running down your face as you moved your way towards the bedroom. "Baby, please, you have to understand." JJ reasoned, tugging at your elbow. You shoved him off, whipping around to look at him. "Why are they making you leave? After all this time?" You yelled, your chest heaving. JJ's eyes were incredibly sad, he tried to embrace you, but you rejected his touch. His face dropped, his bottom lip quivered. You ran into the bedroom, locking the door behind you. JJ knocked on the door once, twice. "Y/N, I know this is hard but can we talk about this?" You sniffled slightly, sliding down against the door. "I'm scared JJ. I cannot lose you." You heard JJ slide down the other side. "I'm scared too Y/N, but we both need to be strong, we need to have faith." You sighed, "JJ, everyday on the news you just hear about soldiers dying overseas, what if one of those number becomes you?" You said, choking on the last words. "Can you open the door?" JJ asked. You turned around, knowing he deserved a chance to talk to you face to face. "Y/F/N, what do you know about me?" You crossed your arms over your chest, "You're stubborn, ridiculous," You sighed, "strong, amazing." JJ smiled, "You forgot one thing, I'm actually crazy about you and if you think that I will let anything or anyone come between the two of us you don't know me well enough." You smiled, tears still streaming down your face, "I don't know how this will work, but I am definitely going to try."
