It was long ago when you were just a small, little thing. Late one night, Bilbo had heard a child crying outside his door.

Curious, but also slightly frightened, he came to the door in his robe and night clothes. When he peeked out the window, he saw a tall shadow before it disappeared into the dark.

Frightened even more, Bilbo ducked down behind his door so whoever or whatever it is wouldn't know he was there. Once he thought it was safe, Bilbo started to walk back to bed, when the crying of a baby started again.

Thinking this might've been some sick joke, he storms to the door opening it in a quick manner.

"WHAT IN MIDDLE-," He began to shout, until he noticed only a basket with you inside, surrounded by blankets

Bilbo's face goes from anger to pity in a matter of seconds when he looks down at your innocent face. Looking up from you, Bilbo looks down both ways of the dirt path that's right outside his fence. Upon seeing no-one who could've left you, he leans down and carefully picks you up in the bundle of blankets. Bilbo then stares at you, even more curious as to why someone chose to leave you with him or even leave you in the first place.

Though, the quietness ends all too soon as you begin to cry again. Bilbo begins to panic, not knowing what to do.

"Uh, no, no, no," He began to tell you "We-We'll have none of that."

You continued to cry even louder, causing Bilbo to have a small look of defeat on his face.

"Come on now, don't cry," He began once again, as he walks back inside "Please, I don't know what to do."

Bilbo starts to pace when he remembers a song his own mother sung to him when he was a child. Though he knows he doesn't have a voice like his mother did, he still desperately tries.

Bilbo begins by humming the tune. The story of a young adventurer, one that was brave. One that searched the deepest caves that no one else dared to. One that climbed the highest mountains, despite the protests of others.

As he continued to hum and lowly sing the song, you begin to calm down. Little by little you silenced. Soon the only thing that can be heard is Bilbo's humming and your soft breathing.

Afraid to have you wake again, Bilbo lays down with you still on his chest. Exhausted himself, Bilbo quickly falls asleep while you grip his robe in your small hand.

Maybe raising you wouldn't be as bad as Bilbo thought it would be. He then, wouldn't be so lonely. He would have company, someone to care for. Someone that could give his life more purpose.
