"Steve, what's your status?" You called, your foot landing in the gut of a Hydra agent. "I've almost cleaned up over here."

You heard Steve grunt through your ear piece, and looked around the massive warehouse, slightly panicked.

"Steve!" You cried again, punching the final Hydra agent in the face and knocking him out cold. "I'm serious, where are you?"

A loud boom sounded in response from somewhere deeper in the building. Without hesitation, you began sprinting in the direction of it.

"Y/N, I could use some help!" His voice sounded in your ear, and you stopped in your tracks.

You turned and groaned when your eyes landed on Steve, who was surrounded by at least fifteen Hydra agents. His shield was on the ground closer to you, and he was down to fending them off with just his fists.

"Dammit," you hissed as Steve was hit with multiple punches.

You flinched as he dropped to the ground. His eyes met yours, and a brief look of relief passed over his face.

"Any day now, Y/N!"

You snapped back to reality, and began running forward. You picked up his shield as you passed it, and quickly whipped it towards Steve. It hit several of the guys beating on him before he caught it. Steve stood and blocked another fist. You grabbed one of the Hydra men by his neck as you reached them and flipped him over, knocking four others down in the process.

"You are an idiot sometimes," you growled to Steve, dodging two different punches. "You should've told me you needed help."

"I didn't need help," he replied, pausing to slam the shield into another guy's face, "until about two minutes ago."

"Liar."

"Behind you!"

You turned around and knocked out the man that had snuck up behind you. You whipped back around to take someone else down, but were surprised to see all of them unconscious on the floor. You put your hands on your hips and looked at Steve, taking a deep breath.

"Idiot, I tell you, idiot."

Steve sighed and bent down to pick up his helmet from the ground. He walked towards the exit and stopped when he was next to you. "I know."

"You really don't know when to give up, do you?"

"I don't like giving up," he said.

You paused and chuckled slightly. "No, no you don't."

"What's so funny?"

"You're still the little guy from Brooklyn that Bucky tells stories about, aren't you?" You said, nudging his shoulder.

He blushed a little and stared at his feet. "I guess some things never change."

"Hold on," you muttered, taking a step forward. You put your hand on his face gently and touched the bruise forming under his eye. "That looks painful."

His face got even redder and he shrugged. "It's not too bad."

"Haven't given up on the tough guy act either," you teased, grinning at him.

"I've gotta tell Bucky to quit telling stories about me," Steve grumbled.

"Oh don't do that, then I wouldn't get to embarrass you. And you're cute when you're embarrassed.

You turned around and began walking towards the exit as Steve's eyes widened and jaw dropped at your words. He stood there for a minute in complete shock before actually realizing what you had just said, and by that time you had already reached the door.

"Y/N, wait!" He called and started to chase after you. "What do you mean cute?!"
