Chapter 31: Who We Are

GRAY'S POV

Edolas Erza gave Erza and I a room together for the time being. It was already night. They said the Anima would not be properly set up by tomorrow.

I'm here now laying on a bed with Erza. She hasn't spoken since we met my counterpart

I saw Erza stood up and left the room. I followed  her until I followed her outside into the castle gardens

"Gray... We need to talk" Erza spoke out knowing I followed her

I got out from hiding and approached her. She turned to face me with no more tears

"Before we talk... I have to know... Why did you choose me? Why did you choose me...over Jellal" I choked

"Jellal...didn't want to be with me" Erza choked back

"Why?" I asked

"His priority was never me. Or rather I wasn't a priority to begin with. His priority is to the people. Even if he is still branded as a criminal" Erza said

"....was I always the runner-up?" I choked out the words

"No" Erza answered

"Why choose me then?" I asked one last time

"Because.... You were always there for Me" Erza calmly said

"Let's Talk" I finished

ERZA'S POV

"Gray... are you happy with me?" I asked

"Yes" Gray answered

"Are you sure?" I asked again

"Yes... Why do you even ask?"

"Because I just saw You and I just saw myself today. And we weren't even together. I saw myself with Jellal. I saw You with Juvia and your kids. We were both happy" I started sobbing

Gray hugged me. His head on my shoulders. I felt his tears running down my shoulder

"I know you're scared. I'm scared too. We we're just confronted with the future of who we were supposed to be with" Gray choked

I started to cry as well

"But we don't have to believe that's true. That's not who we are now" Gray croaked

"Gray..." I muttered

"Shhhh Let me finish. Remember they're not us. They may look like us and almost act like us. But our weird is their normal and their weird is our normal" Gray said

"Edolas is one of the possibility of many worlds. In every world we won't know who we'll end up with... But I want to be with you... in our world. And with that being said" Gray said

Gray pulled a ring out of his pocket and kneeled in front of me

"Can you be by my side, as long as I get to be by yours?" He asked

I broke down in tears and kneeled alongside him

"Are you sure about me? I have doubts. I'm bossy. I'm angry. I'm too strict. I'm impatient. I eat a lot of sweets"I sobbed at him as I hurled at him all of my reasons

"Erza... We build walls around our hearts...to keep our hearts safe and secure from all the pain that we've had to endure. The only way for these walls to fall apart is with a Love strong enough to break down the walls without breaking the heart. You broke down my walls Erza... My heart is yours for the taking. And now its time for me to break down your walls. And no matter how many walls you put in my way. I'll tear through them... and claim your heart" Gray said

"I Love You Erza Scarlet. Every positive, negative thing about you. Past, Present, Future. I love everything about you, quirks and all" Gray said

I stopped crying and I gave Gray a gentle smile

"Say it again... But do it right this time" I requested

Gray stopped crying also and gave out a little laugh

I stood up and Gray kneeled again

"Erza Scarlet, Will You Marry Me?" Gray proposed

"Yes." I accepted his proposal

He slid the ring on my finger

"Kiss me you Fool!" I said as he stood up and I kissed him

We pulled away from the kiss

"How am I the fool?" He asked

"You already said on our first picnic that you have my heart. I believe what you said is true. It's only right I get to have yours" I said

"And I wouldn't have it any other way" He replied as he kissed me this time

That night Gray let my mind and heart felt at ease. Knowing that I was going to spend the rest of my life with him. I'm at peace as I slept with Gray while in his arms. Knowing that the proof of his love for me is on my finger. Knowing that my heart is his and his heart is mine. I wouldn't have it any other way either.

THE NEXT MORNING

GRAY'S POV

First thing in the morning we were at the lab where they operate the Anima

"I've set your coordinates for Magnolia. Are you two ready to go home?" Mystogan asked

I looked over by my side to Erza. She nodded at me

I held her hand, as our fingers intertwined I felt the ring that I gave her the night before.

"We're ready" I answered while looking at Erza then

The portal opened in front of us but before we could take a step

"Have a happy life you two" E!Erza said

"We Will" Erza replied

We stepped into the portal as we head back home to Magnolia
