Vixen Twenty-seven: Poisoned

Khera's POV:

Pagdating namin sa ospital ay kaagad na inasikaso si Lei ng mga doktor. Namutla ako nang makita ang bagay na nakabaon sa likod niya na nababalutan ng dugo. It's a freaking shuriken!

Oh God. Please save her! I muttered in my mind. Napaupo ako sa isa sa mga upuan dito sa waiting area nang hilain ako ni Carl.

"Hush.." napakislot ako nang biglang dumapo ang kamay nito sa pisngi ko.

"Everything will be alright." alo niya habang pinapahid ang mga luhang hindi ko namalayang naglalandas na pala sa magkabila kong mga pisngi.

"I hope so, Carl. I hope so.." humihikbi kong turan.

"Dude, uso ang umupo. Kanina ka pa, nakakahilo na." Harry said to Rude. Hindi kasi ito mapermi sa isang tabi at lagi na lang paroo't parito.

Harry earned a glares from Rude na ikinataas ng dalawang kamay nito sa ire.

"Easy.. Sabi ko nga tatahimik na."

Napatayo kaming lahat nang biglang bumukas ang pinto ng ER, mula rito ay lumabas ang isang doktor.

"Kayo ba ang naghatid ng sugatang pasyente?" tanong nito.

"Yes, doc." I answered.

"How is she?" Rude asked.

"Nagamot na namin ang sugat at maayos din naming nakuha ang bagay na bumaon sa kanyang likod, ngunit..."

"But what?" Rude asked sound impatience.

"The patient had been poisoned." he said na nagpatigalgal sa amin.

Nalason si Lei? No... Hindi yun totoo pero teka may gamot naman siguro di ba?

"How come?" Alex with his serious tone.

"Yung bagay na bumaon sa likod niya, may nakakalasong chemical ang nakalagay doon. A poisonous chemical called batrachotoxin."

"Anong klaseng lason iyon? May gamot naman sa lasong iyon, di ba doc?" tanong ko.

"Batrachotoxin is one of the most powerful neurotoxins in the world, it is found on the skin of the tiny poison dart frogs. The frogs themselves don't produce the poison, it comes from the food they eat, most probably a type of tiny beetle. There are several different versions depending on the species, with by far the most dangerous found on the Golden poison frog of Colombia. This little guy is small enough to sit on your fingertip, but one frog has enough batrachotoxin on him to kill around two dozen people or a couple elephants. The toxin works by attacking the victims nerves, opening their sodium channels and causing paralysis, essentially shutting off the entire body's ability to communicate with itself and unfortunately, there are no known antidote and death comes very quickly." mahaba niyang pahayag na ikinabagsak ng mga balikat namin.
