I laid back on the couch in my living room, eating a box of stale crackers as I stared up at the ceiling. I think I was finally coming to terms with the fact that leading the herd away, just had to be done, and there was no going around it.. no matter how bad I wanted us to.
Although the herd scared the hell out of me and occupied my mind more than I'd like it to, I knew how smart Rick was, and he definitely proved it with his plan and the dry run that they're on.
I just couldn't help but be worried still.

I quickly sat up as I heard a knock at the door, wiping the cracker crumbs off of myself before answering it.

"Hey," Spencer smiled, his hands in his pockets, "Our shifts about to start soon so I figured we could walk there together-- if you're ok with that."

I nodded, walking out the door and pulling it closed behind me, "Yeah, that works for me."

The walk to the watch tower with Spencer was more awkward than I thought it would be; mainly filled with long pauses and small talk that almost made me dread the time I'd have to spend on watch with him.

"Guns are up there," Rosita said as she climbed down after Holly, "Didn't see much besides a few walkers; probably won't change a hell of a lot."

"Then I might just catch up on some sleep up there." Spencer joked, earning a disapproving look from each of us, "Kidding." He sighed before retreating up the wooden ladder.

Rosita rolled her eyes before looking over to me, "If you ended up pushing him off that tower, I honestly wouldn't blame you."

I laughed, "Well, let's hope it won't come to that."

***

"So, where are you from?" Spencer asked as we stood looking over the area that surrounded Alexandria, finally breaking the silence between us.

"Arizona." I said.

"Really?" He asked, surprised, "How the hell did you end up all the way over here?"

I shrugged, "I was traveling the country with a friend when people first started turning and ended up just a state over."

"Traveling the country? Wow," he nodded, "What made you wanna do that?"

"Personal reasons." I sighed, wanting to change the subject off of myself, "What about you? Where are you from?"

"Right here, actually." He said, looking around at the scenery, "Well- not here here-- a few towns over."

I nodded, "You like it?"

He shrugged, "It's kind of all I've ever known."

***

"So, are you getting along with everyone now?" Spencer asked, breaking another silence between us and causing me to furrow my eyebrows at the weird question.

"Yeah?" I said slowly.

"That's good," he nodded, "Seems like you and Daryl have been getting along pretty good."

A let out a laugh, suspicious at what he was getting at, "Well we are going to be doing runs together so-"

"You should just be careful around him," he cut me off, "You're still pretty new here and it would suck to see something happen to you, that's all."

I felt nearly speechless at what I just heard come out of his mouth, almost wondering if one of us was going insane, "I should be careful around him?" I asked, repeating what he said.

He nodded, "He's not a good person; take my word for it."

I folded my arms, just wanting him to humor me at this point, "And why isn't he a good person, Spencer?"

He let out a heavy breath, "The first few days that all those people show up, he nearly choked out Nicholas-- I don't think he can't be trusted."

"Those people are my people-- they're my family-"

"You haven't even known them for that long-- none of us have!" He cut me off.

"They've saved my ass multiple times and I know they'd do it again if they had to," I stated, trying my best to hold my tempter, "Because that's what family does."

He scoffed, "Ok, you know what? Never mind, forget I said anything."

"Whatever Spencer," I shook my head, "Is that the reason you wanted to do watch together? So you could try to convince me to stay away from Daryl?"

"Look," he began again, getting defensive, "All I'm trying to do is look out for you-"

"I don't need someone like you looking out for me when someone like Daryl already is." I snapped, putting an end to a conversation that I didn't even want to have in the first place.

***

"I.. I didn't mean to upset you earlier, Liz." Spencer sighed as the time passed, "I just wanted-"

"I don't care what you wanted," I cut him off, "Just please, stay out of my business."

He scoffed, "Fine, I-"

And that's when we heard it..
