I turned around and looked at the girls who were watching me with serious expressions, even Harriet who had stopped to stuff her face for a moment. She looked at me with her doe like green eyes dead set and said, "Remember our talk? Remember how you said you have to go with Nolan? Then why are you doing this?"
I took a deep breath and looked around the room to see the confused looks on Hailey's and Taylor's faces. I smiled at Harriet and said, "Because I have to end some ties today. As much as I don't want to be a heartbreaker, I have to be one. I have to tell Nick that I'll never feel this way for him, ever and it might hurt him but at least he'll get a closure. It's better than hanging onto a loose thread of hope that has turned fragile and might break any moment."
Harriet just frowned slightly and continued to chew on some grapes as she filled her mouth. "I never get your thoughts honestly."
I smirked at her, my mind flashed with an image of Nolan smirking, and said, "Maybe you haven't read enough romance books yet."
"Maybe."
"Well, I never understand what you both talk about these days, honestly," Hailey said, shaking her head.
I snorted. "That's what I and Harriet feel every time you and Taylor talk about make-up and fashion."
Hailey rolled her eyes and said, "Anyway, I'm a stupid twin, I've decided. How could I not see how much my own brother was smitten by you?"
Taylor snorted. "I had seen it at the very beginning, I mean when I had asked him to hook up with me he looked at Cadence and declined." And when she realized how much bad it sounded she winced and said, "God, I was hoe back then."
I screwed my brows together and patted her back. "It's okay, it wasn't your best of times."
"Okay, can we not talk about my brother's hook ups?" Asked Hailey as she scrunched up her nose and grimaced. "I feel sick even thinking of it."
"Cadence!" I heard my father call this time. "Get down here honey, your brother and the other boys are ready."
Yes, you heard it right. My brother, Mark, too, was coming for the ball. Harriet had asked him out, more like I had forced her to ask him out and since it was allowed to bring the ex students of our school for the ball, my brother agreed, but not before torturing the poor girl's soul. Hailey had been asked out by Breckin in a rather cute way, not even her ex boyfriend had asked her out that way. He had done it in the cafeteria yesterday in front of the whole lot of school, including some of the staff section, making Hailey a huge target for the mental bullying by Breckin's fangirls. Honestly, it was a sight to see the girls break their perfect girls' facades as their faces broke into looks of complete and sheer jealousy. A girl, who was trying to get Breckin's attention ever since the first day of pour last years, had broken her empty food tray into half, like she was a hulk. And out of pure friendship, Taylor had decided to accompany Asher since they both didn't want to go with someone else. Taylor was still smitten with Caleb and Asher? Well, he was Asher. I was sure, he liked someone but I just didn't know who.
Nolan? I didn't even know if he was going to come to the ball or not. I hoped he would. My heart raced just thinking about him. God, there was something truly wrong with my body and my soul.
I looked at the girls and grinned. "Ready for show time girls?"
"We were born ready," Grinned Hailey back evilly while Harriet muttered,
"To eat."
