Shane's POV
"You can't force us to fight with or against you!" I shout at Lysander.
"Think about it, we need you, you need us. Those hunters outnumber all of us, but if we work together-"
"Are you actually suggesting that we should be killing?" Cheyenne sounds apalled.
"It is a kill or be killed world," Lysander solemnly nods. Cheyenne goes to argue, but I cut her off.
"FIne. How many of you wolves are there?"
"Foutry six."
"How many-" Cheyenne can't beleive that forty eight- or forty nine if Vincent makes it- could be out numbered by the hunters. The hunter community I had once been a part off . . .
"A couple hundred maybe?" Lysander states his statistic as a question instead of fact. "For as long as there are unicorns or werewolves, there shall always be hunters, too."
"We will fight with you," I say, before Cheyenne can disagree. "For freedom, for safety.
-----------------------------------------
Lysander had the werewolf called Leo take us back to the hotel and my trailer to gather our supplies, clothing and the ridiculous amount of icecream Cheyenne has. I am so tempted to ask why there is so much, but she frowns at it, so I hold the silence.
Leo drives us back to the pack's main house in a dark '04 Lincoln. The car is so clean and smells of car lots so much that I doubt that the vehicle has been used much before. All I can think about is the impending doom of our two species.
How can those I once called family, whom was once called friends to even Cheyenne and Lysander's family, now turn against us, trying to wipe both werewolves and unicorns from the face of the earth?
It feels like forever before we are back to the pack house, but when we arrive, I can think of only one way to make things seem lighter, less dark, heavy and dangerous.
"Sing with me, please, Cheyenne."
She gives me an inquisitive look at first, but joins me in front of the gathering wolf pack members, as we sing Lorde's Team.
"Wait 'til you’re announced
We’ve not yet lost all our graces
The hounds will stay in chains
Look upon your greatness
That you’ll send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out"
The words come so easily, as Cheyenne and i link arms. We look between Leo, Lysander, and the rest of the werewolves,a nd I manage to plaster a smile on my face. A few of the wolves even pick up the words with us, for the rest of the one lines repetiveness.
"Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Send the call out
Call all the ladies out
They’re in their finery
A hundred jewels on throats
A hundred jewels between teeth
Now bring my boys in
Their skin in craters like the moon
The moon we love like a brother, while he glows through the room
Dancin' around the lies we tell
Dancin' around big eyes as well
Even the comatose they don’t dance and tell
We live in cities you'll never see on screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things
Living in ruins of a palace within my dreams
And you know, we're on each other's team
I'm kind of over getting told to throw my hands up in the air, so there
So all the cups got broke shards beneath our feet but it wasn’t my fault
And everyone’s competing for a love they won't receive
'Cause what this palace wants is release
We live in cities you'll never see on screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things
Living in ruins of a palace within my dreams
And you know, we're on each other's team
I’m kind of over getting told to throw my hands up in the air
So there
I’m kinda older than I was when I revelled without a care
So there
We live in cities you'll never see on screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things
Living in ruins of a palace within my dreams
And you know, we're on each other's team
We're on each other's team
And you know, we're on each other's team
We're on each other's team
And you know, and you know, and you know."
Smiles cling to the faces of many of the wolves. One wolf, I beleive titled Olivera, actually sways to our words, which Cheyenne actually took over leading. Maybe there is hope for us, after all.
