Draco's POV
"Hermione, what the heck are you doing here?" Draco hissed, looking around, realizing how lucky he was that none of his dormates had woken up.
"I really, really, need to talk about what happened," Hermione explained, quietly sitting on the floor.
"Alright, but not here! Come on, I'll grab Harry's Invisibility Cloak, and we can talk in the common room," Draco sighed, but the flashback was burning his mind too.
Clutching the silvery fabric, they tiptoed out of the room. In front of the cosy, warm fireplace was a couch, They settled down underneath, Hermione being small enough to still fit even though Draco took up most of the space.
"So... " Hermione started awkwardly. They had been this close before, but now it seemed too intimate.
"How did yours start?" Draco whispered, looking anywhere but into her eyes.
"Lumos," Hermione murmured, casting a bright light from her wand. Draco was momentarily awed at how far Mia had come, from being a brainy Muggle who was clueless at what her best friends were hiding ("I once thought you guys were either in a cult, or a gang... I'm glad you're not, though!") to a genius witch.
Well, she didn't know the history of Hogwarts, but she didn't need to know that.
"It began with a vision of you being older; maybe a 7th year. You said, But we are losing! What if they need us to? Uh, and I replied, they don't, I'm certain. And then we tried to break into Dumbledore's office and I ranted about how Dumbledore wouldn't be helpful, and then I said lemon drop at one point, and the portrait opened?" Hermione tried to sort through her confused thoughts.
"Well, mines went like The Marauders; yeah, Harry's dad and mum and his dad's friends were young, and you were older. You said something about me missing our, er, one month anniversary?" Draco blushed.
Hermione turned red. "Go on."
"And then Sirius said something about believing us, and then we talked about "keeping something from Remus and Lily, because they're too smart." Oh, and here comes the most confusing part; you say, 'It will disrupt the whole timeline'" Draco's brows furrowed.
Hermione looked lost, which was a first for her. "I don't like feeling stupid!" She growled, running her hands through her hair.
"FIRST YEARS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ASLEEP!" A new voice roared.
Draco nearly yelped until Hermione jammed her hand on his mouth. She put a finger to her mouth.
"If I find any of them nasty first years... " the voice continued on. "What about it, Mrs. Norris?"
Draco and Hermione stayed completely still.
"Argh, none of them are awake." Footsteps padded away, followed by an anguished yowl from a cat.
The portrait door closed with a "How rude to wake me up, I need my beauty sle - "
Draco breathed a sigh of relief. Nutso, he mouthed to Hermione who grinned.
"Okay, we must've been dating in that... uh, thing. Maybe this entire thing is super superficial? Like, we're keeping a bad Potions score from Harry's mum and uncle. Maybe we were losing a Quidditch game and wanted to demand Dumbledore to call out the Slytherins who cheated. Maybe the timeline thing was a metaphor?" Hermione nodded to herself.
"But that still doesn't explain the entire thing; why did we get these... flashbacks?" Draco demanded, growing impatient.
Hermione bit her lip. "I don't know! But Hogwarts has an amazing library; we'll be able to research tomorrow."
