Hermione's POV

After Luna had dreamily wandered away, the trio huddled together to discuss.

"She could be wrong," Draco pointed out.

"She isn't," Harry said firmly. "She's eccentric, I guess, but she wouldn't lie."

Hermione paced. "Well, okay. It's almost midnight. We need to go."

Harry stood up shakily. "I feel horrible letti  - "

Hermione grabbed his hand. "It's okay, Harry. We're fine."

Harry passed them his Invisibility Cloak. "At least this could help?"

Draco awkwardly glanced at it. "I think it would be easier if we went as Animagi."

Harry nodded quickly. "Yeah, okay, sure.:

"It really is fine," Draco placated him. "Hermione, you ready?"

Hermione breathed in deeply.

She had done this before.

She could do it again.

But when would her life that was so action packed with horrible things be peaceful?

Was she cursed to have this kind of life for forever?

"Yeah." She hoped her voice wasn't showing the fear she felt.

Draco nodded once and popped into his Animagus form.

Hermione smiled for a minute, forgetting herself, before turning into her familiar cat form.

Harry leaned down to pet both of them. "Be safe," he whispered. "Don't die."

And with those encouraging words, he left.

oOo

A white cat hissed at a white fox as the fox made a suit of armor topple over.

They walked together serenely, and if anyone were to see them, they would wonder what was so special about them that made their eyes so intelligent.

The fox looked at the cat.

The cat stared back.

An unspoken conversation went on between them.

The cat and the fox resumed walking.

oOo

Hermione sprang out of her cat form once they were out of view of the castle.

They had visited Hagrid many times over the course of their five years, but they had no desire to see him just then.

"Where do you suppose they are?" Hermione whispered, lighting her wand.

Draco stopped. "Do you think we'll be able to see them?"

"Don't be sil - " Hermione paused.

Memories of the final battle with Lily and James flashed through her mind.

The grotesque, bright blood.

The maniacal laughing.

And the screams.

The screams were the worst.

Hermione didn't finish her sentence.

They had experienced death. They had looked at it right in the eye.

That was when the first threstral crossed the gate.

It was a creature that would've been beautiful, if it weren't so horrible.
