❝ Nothing quite makes my heart ache like our almost. ❞
She looked down at the crumbled piece of paper, skimming through the list of her final 3 wishes.
1. Fall in love myself.
2. Watch two people fall in love.
3. To leave, smiling.

Alyssa had convinced her mother that she'd be fine to go to her doctor's appointment by herself. Besides it was only a routine check up of her blood pressure, a blood test and other checks.
But there was one person that Alyssa didn't expect to see when she walked through the doors to the hospital. For a good minute or two, she froze looking at him and the drip that was on wheels, following him. Alyssa was startled. She had no clue what was going on. Alyssa had no clue what to do or think. She was overwhelmed.
For walking down one of the many corridors in the hospital was Jason. Alyssa pondered whether to confront him or not for she didn't know how he would react. In the end, she shook her head before walking towards Jason.
Her thoughts were all over the place. What was he doing here? Why was he alone? And why on Earth did he have a drip?
She caught up with him before holding onto his arm and stopping him. Alyssa watched as he frowned and locked eyes with her. At first she noticed the shock in his eyes followed by fear and finally sadness. "Ja- Jacob, what are you doing he- Are you alright? Why are you on a drip?! What happened?" Alyssa in no way planned for her words to come out as a string of questions nonetheless she couldn't hold them back.
He nervously laughed at her, pulling the drip behind him, "Daisy. Fancy seeing you here! Was it still raining when you-"
She shook her head, "Jacob, stop changing the topic. What happened? Are you ok?" Alyssa couldn't understand why he wasn't answering her question.
"I'm perfectly fine," he answered, smiling. Anybody would have believed that this smile was genuine but since Alyssa had begun spending more time with him, she realised that it didn't quite reach his eyes.
Alyssa was getting tired now, "This isn't funny, Jace. Please stop beating around the bush, I'm one hundred percent serious. What's happening?" Alyssa asked, keeping her voice steady.
Internally, she was shell-shocked. She'd roamed these white lonely walls long enough to know that being hooked to a drip was definitely not a good thing. She kept her eyes trained on him as he tried to think of an excuse. Eventually, he let out a sigh.
"Well, I guess you'd better sit down. This is a woeful story sure to bring tears," he said dramatically, putting a hand on his forehead. Alyssa smiled, appreciating his attempt of lightening he situation. It didn't change the fact that she was still pretty shook.
She took a seat on the grey seats that were dotted around the hospital beside him, his height towering above her. She nervously fiddled with the hem of her shirt, worried about what was coming next.
"Come on. Can you just tell me for god's sake what happened? Why are you- Jason. This isn't funny."
He sobbed exaggeratingly rubbing his eyes, "I'm dying."
Alyssa froze up. She didn't know how to act. Of course Jacob didn't know that the person beside him was going through the very same thing and she didn't intent on him finding out. "I'm kidding." When she heard him laughing at her face, she scowled.
"That is not something to joke about, Jacob."
He help his hands up in defeat, allowing them to fall into a silence.
"COPD."
Alyssa furrowed her eyebrows at him, "What's that?" She was pretty sure that she'd never heard of that before.
Jacob warily rubbed his eyes, "Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease," saying the words as if it were reversed. He sighed, when he saw the shocked expression on Alyssa's face. "Yeah I know, it's a mouthful."
Slowly, Alyssa asked more regarding what it was about. Jason explained how he was diagonised with it around two years, when he found it harder to be able to play sports at school. Less that five perfectage of the population under 20 had it. Then Alyssa asked the question that really mattered, "Is it serious?"
Alyssa quickly mentally prepared herself for bad news but was upmost glad when he said that it wasn't. She took a long breath out in relief. At least the future looked okay for Jace.
After fifteen minutes or so of their conversations in the random way things, Alyssa stood up bidding goodbye to him. She'd long missed her appointment and decided it were best if Jacob didn't see her go to the reception. She was glad that he forgot about why she were there.
"Alyssa, would you mind doing me a favour?" Jacob asked her as he walked away. She took a few steps closer, nodding for him to continue.
"Uh, would you not tell Will about this?" He asked shuffling. "Knowing him, he'll probably overreact or something. Besides he's already lost his dad and I don't want him to start thinking that I'm critical when I'm really not." Alyssa had never questioned him about his father but had noticed how he never spoke about him.
This was precisely the reason why Brianna needed to replace her. This confirmed that her anxiousness was for a reason. She was anxious about what William would feel when she leaves and she needed to drift a way before her departure had some serious consequences. Alyssa didn't want Will be hurt.
She knew that it wasn't the best idea to get close to him in the first place but she sure as hell didn't regret it.
"Yeah sure. I understand," she pauses. "And I've also got something to ask you." Jacob shot her a curious look. "Um, I needed some help."
He looked partially astonished, "Alyssa needs my help?! With what?"
"Uh, with Brianna and Will..."
She trailed of wondering how she was going to phrase this, without giving away her initial feeling towards him. His lips curled into a smirk and he wiggles his eyebrows.
"Ah, I see. Do you need the love guru Jacob to assist you with anything?"
