Alyssa was feeling upset

Alyssa was feeling upset. She had fully well accepted that today would be the day where she thinks about all life's problems and whine about almost everything. Everyone had one of those days, right? Besides her health was playing up again, leaving her in constant sweats at night.

It had been a good week and a half since they'd returned from Germany and she had noticed flowers had begun to bloom. On contrary, she'd been going downhill. It had become routine for her to wake up three times a night before finally nodding off. Her muscles were as weak as they'd ever been and for once she was glad that Will had offered her a lift in the first place. There was no way she'd be fit enough to drive a car. She closed her eyes, thinking about how long ago that felt. Fevers were constant and Alyssa would always hush her mother when she tried to suggest going back to the hospital.

She told her that they'd do nothing more than prescribe more medicine or painkillers. After a while her mother relented to what she was saying. Why? Because her mother knew deep down that it was out of her control.

Sighing, she sunk her head into her arms in the library. Alyssa had been feeling off and had told the other three that she had gone home since she was free last period whilst in reality she was unprepared to face her parents or her friends.

She flicked through the calendar on her phone to the event she added eighty month ago. The event that would arrive in less than a week. She tapped on it.

No school.

She laughed bitterly to herself. When she had added it, she was over the moon at the prospect of school finishing. Besides she had no friends then anyway, making it an incredible thing. But she had failed to understand before that that would be it. Literally it. No more school ever. Never in her life again. It had been determined that after this date, she would be staying at home, too weak to go to school.

Alyssa scowled. She hated that work. Weak. As far as Alyssa knew, she was definitely not weak. Fine, her body may be giving up on her but apart from that she was as strong as she'd ever been.

She began wondering how it meant that she probably wouldn't see Will, Brianna or Jacob as often. Tucking her hair behind her ears, she wondered whether they'd miss her or come to visit her. Did Alyssa want them to visit her and see her in such an awful state? The answer was clear. Despite the fact that she knew the moment she met them, that she would need to have a explanation for when she leaves, Alyssa had nothing prepared.

She didn't have a single excuse of why she wouldn't be at school anymore. Partially, she was glad that none of them would see how empty she would later become. It was written for her ages ago. At least Will wouldn't see her looking ugly, she thought before adding that she was ugly anyway. It didn't matter.

By now, her eyes had watered and a drip of water fell directly from her eye, without rolling down her face. It merged into the textbook in front of her, dampening the letters.

Alyssa laughed at how pathetic she was, having a breakdown in the school library.

She smiled weakly, letting another tear free itself from her eyes. The image of Brianna and Will, lips pressed together on the ice rink fluttered through her mind. At least two people would be happy. She threw away the thought, reminding herself that she too was happy for them. This was the right thing to do.

Alyssa didn't want to hurt nobody by leaving and she was pretty certain that she would accomplish that no matter how. Deep in thought, Alyssa didn't notice that the library door had swung open five minutes ago. Alyssa was unaware that Will had sauntered in, confused as to why she was still at school. Confused to why she had lied. She didn't know how shocked he was when he saw clear pearls of water roll out of her eyes.

Alyssa didn't know that he thought he was responsible.

She looked up when she heard the library door shut. From the glass pane on the door, she saw black curls. She cursed under her breath.

That night, the two of them thought long and hard about each other and each came to a decision.
