DURING HER SECOND official week on base, Indira makes her first non-educational trip to the medical bay. Technically speaking, she was half-dragged, half-carried there by Jessika Pava after an unfortunate incident during hand-to-hand combat training. Jess had been a good instructor, up until she wasn't, and accidentally sent a mean right hook into Indira's jaw while attempting to teach her how to block a punch.
The hit hadn't hurt much at the time — at least, Indira hadn't remembered it hurting, but she'd also been slightly unconscious. Now, however, as she sits on a cot in the medical bay, she can definitely feel the impact of Jessika's punch and it is not pleasant.
"Oh, my gods," Jessika says for the hundredth time. "Indi, I am so, so sorry."
The pilot had opted to stay with Indira while the technician waited for one of the physicians to become available since there had been an outbreak of some kind of virus in the barracks that was keeping Doctor Kalonia occupied. Waiting was a little tedious, but one of the medical droids hadbrought Indira an ice pack to place on her jaw and the cold was definitely helping to numb the pain.
"It's fine, Jess," she replies, adjusting the ice pack and wincing slightly. "I'm a big girl. I can handle it."
Just then, the doors to the medical bay come bursting open as Kali rushes in, still wearing her flight suit. Behind her, EV-1 hovers in the air anxiously whilst beeping in distress. "I came as soon as I could," she says breathlessly, skidding to a stop before Indira and Jessika. "Evie told me that Indi got hurt. What happened?"
Flitting around in nervous circles around Indira's head, EV-1 bombards her with a dozen different questions. "I'm fine, I'm fine," she reassures the droid, though her words are slightly slurred. "Seriously, Evie, I'm fine."
"Uh," Jessika says nervously, glancing between Indira and Kali. "You see, we were practicing combat training and —"
"Oh, my gods, Jessika!" Kali shouts, interrupting her girlfriend. "You punched my best friend in the face?"
