Third Person POV:

Y/n's shoes click loudly ash she rushes down the hallway towards the group of Slytherins standing near the entrance of the Great Hall.  The Slytherins smile over at her and wave, calling her over.  Normally, the Slytherins would not do something like this, but y/n is different.  She's one of the most popular girls in school, but not in a bad way.  She's not into the most popular trends of Hogwarts or the newest wizarding makeup line, but she's one of the kindest people in all of Hogwarts.  Nobody had ever seen her frown or cry.  Every day, y/n goes around with a skip in her step and a smile on her face, saying "hello" to everyone on her way to classes and meals and they would always acknowledge her back.  Nobody in Hogwarts hates y/n, absolutely no one.  Not even the abrasive Slytherins would raise their voice with her and Zacharias Smith couldn't make up anything snide to say about her.  She's that nice.

"Malfoy!" she says cheerily as she comes to a stop.  She grabs his arm and pulls him aside away from his group.  The rest of his group laughs.

"Typical excited y/n," Theodore Nott whispers to Blaise Zabini.  Y/n and Draco come to a stop and she rests her hand on his shoulder.

"Guess what, Draco!" she says.

"What happened?" Draco asks with a smile and a fake exasperated sigh.

"I just overheard Professor Flitwick say he might allow next period to be a study hall and that he might even dismiss us early!" y/n says happily.  "Now you can finish that paper that you were worried about and stop stressing so much!  I remember yesterday you were talking about how stressed and unhappy you were because of your dad..."

"Wow, really, y/n?" Draco gasps.

"Yeah!  Now I can help you get your grade back up so your dad can get off your back..," y/n says, looking up at Draco.

"Thanks, y/n.  You're amazing," he says with gratitude, patting y/n gently on the shoulder.

"It's no problem, Draco.  You're my best friend and I'd do anything to help."  She pauses to looks down at the floor but almost immediately straightens back up.  "Well.  We should be getting to charms.  Walk with me?"

Draco grins and they head off, talking happily about the days to come.  They walk up the stairs, sit in their normal spots right next to each other, despite the annoyance of Pansy Parkinson who has the habit of whispering nasty comments in y/n's ear.  Professor Flitwick gets up on his pile of spellbooks and announces to the class in his squeaky voice that today is a free period, just like y/n said and the class erupts with sighs of relief and thankfulness that there's no real class.  Draco takes out his scroll of paper from his bookbag and y/n brings out her spellbooks and they put their heads together in concentration as the rest of the class transfigures their books and scrolls into large birds of which some more inclined to fly than others.  This continues for some time until Professor Flitwick uses a vanishing spell on the birds and the students are forced to do their work.  Relieved, y/n and Draco, free from distraction, return to Draco's paper in hopes of improving his grade and stop Draco from having to suffer the wrath of his father.

~~~~~
Walking back to the common room from an uneventful dinner, Draco stops in his tracks and turns his head towards the open door of the girls' lavatory.  He takes an unsteady step forward and cups his hand to his ear to listen in closely.  There's crying and running water, but it isn't Moaning Myrtle.  He hears whimpering and then a girl talking to herself.  It's y/n.
