House: You Choose

Blood Status: You Choose

A/N: Something much shorter than usual, but sweet.

-----

Holding a book up in front of your face, you carefully read the yellowed pages of an old history of magic book, ignoring all of the other students' chatter in the Great Hall. Sometimes, you would join in on the conversation, but today, you felt like reading instead. The words flow steadily through your brain until a sharp hiss interrupts them.

"Pssst!" someone hisses from behind you. "Pssst! Hey, y/l/n!"

Closing your book in frustration, you spin around to look behind you. It's the Slytherins again, Malfoy and his gang. They all laugh loudly and begin to snicker as Draco Malfoy smirks at you.

"Y/N! Got your head stuck in a book again? What a Ravenclaw!" he jeers.

"Shove off, Malfoy. Yes, I am reading a book. Big deal. What's it to you? And what sort of insult is that? 'What a Ravenclaw?' Lame, Malfoy," you say with an eye roll. "And since when is it bad to read? If I was a Slytherin you wouldn't be annoying me if I was reading."

"You're right because I'd be messing with you for other things!" Draco laughs.

"Damn it, Malfoy. You're so infuriating! Why do you always do this? You have been tormenting me since first year!" you say and he shrugs as the Slytherins burst out laughing.

"Whatever," he remarks.

"So annoying," you sigh, turning back around and opening the pages again, grumbling. "And thanks a lot, Malfoy. Now I've lost my place."

"Anytime, y/l/n," Draco chuckles, satisfied with himself.

~~~~~
Sitting under a tree near the black lake, you look out to the water and let your book close in your hands. You listen to the calm water that moves with the small fishes in the lake feed.
"Reading again are you, y/n?" you hear a voice drawl from behind.
"Not you again. Why won't you ever leave me alone?" you groan. "You're like this fly hovering around my head non-stop. It's annoying. Go away."
"Non-Stop, ey?" he asks, sitting down.
"What about 'Go away' do you not understand?" you say, quickly moving away from him.
"Nothing. I understand it perfectly. So, y/n. You think about me non-stop?" he asks, smirking. You groan loudly.
"No, you idiot. You bug the hell out of me!" you shout, getting up and taking your books.
"Wait! y/l/n!" he calls after you.
"What is it now, Malfoy? What's so important that you bug me mercilessly?" you shout back, not turning to face him.
"I just wanted to say that...," he trails off.
"What?" you say, peaking over your shoulder.
"N-Nothing. Never mind...," he grumbles. You sigh, exasperated, and head back to the castle for a cup of tea or something to take your mind off of Malfoy.
~~~~~

"Y/l/n!" Draco shouts, running up to you from behind in the halls.

"Oh, for crying out loud, stop!" you shoot back as he stops in front of you.

"Y/n. Please. I'm sorry," he says softly.

"What's going on? Why are you apologizing now of all times, Malfoy? And what's with your voice? Not so smug now or something?" you inquire.

"Well, I sorta am failing half of my classes now...," he says nervously. 'M-My father's really on my back and no matter what I do, it's no use. I can't get my grade up again. I was wondering if you'd help."

You laugh out loud, accidentally drawing some attention to you two. You straighten yourself up a bit and stare at Draco directly in the eyes.

"Are you really expecting me to willingly help you after what you did? What you've said? You're insane. No!" you exclaim, crossing your arms.

"Please, y/n. You're my only hope!" Draco says. "You're the only person I know who has the time to get good grades and do something they enjoy on the sides that will even talk to me! Crabbe and Goyle are morons, Blaise and Theo can't teach, plus Pansy would just try to make out with me... Listen, I'm in real trouble here."

"I'm sorry. Maybe if you hadn't-"

"Please, y/n! I beg of you! I-I'd even pay you!" he says desperately. You gish and drop your hands at your sides.

"Fine, Malfoy," you sigh and he jumps int he air in excitement.

"But for every hour I tutor you, you have to buy me something from Hogsmeade," you say. "That's the only condition."

"You got a deal, y/n. When do we start?" he asks.

"How about now?" you say, reaching into your bag and taking out a Transfiguration book and handing it to him.

"How'd you know I was failing Transfiguration?" he asks, shocked.

"I always see you avoiding the homework and freaking out in class. I'm observant like that," you say. "Cone on. Let's go. We have to get you caught up or else daddy dearest will be on your tail for the rest of your life!"

He nods and you both run off to find an empty classroom to work in.

~~~~~
Sitting in the Three Broomsticks at one of the corner booths next to Draco, Draco holds your hand as the bustle of waiters, chairs, and conversations from other tables move around you. Draco squeezes your hand lightly and you smile, sinking into his chest. He brings his arms around you lovingly.
"Tired, Love?" he asks and you nod, closing your eyes.
"A bit. It's a lot of work tutoring you," you reply.
"Come on. It's been months since we started. Is it still that hard?" he chuckles.
"Well, yeah, since you never want to touch a book," you laugh.
"I guess you're right. I must say, I may be allergic," he admits as the waiter brings two butterbeers. "Thank you," he says to the waiter. You sit up and grab your mug, smiling at Draco.
"Thanks for paying, Draco," you say.
"Anytime, y/n. I owe it to you, after all."
"Are you still counting the hours?!" you gasp.
"Well, that was part of the conditions," he says with a shrug.
"We're together now. You can drop those conditions. I'm tutoring you purely on the fact that I'm your girlfriend now and I'd hate to see you failing everything," you smile as he brings his arms around you again.
After a few weeks of tutoring and Draco owing you stuff from Hogsmeade, Draco asked you on a date, which you thoroughly enjoyed. Soon after, the dates became regular and he asked you to be his girlfriend, which you enthusiastically accepted. This caused much controversy at Hogwarts. Many of your classmates and other students said that Draco Malfoy was anywhere near y/n's league or that Malfoy was just playing her, but you both ignored them. What really matters in the end to you two is that you're a couple and Draco has been an extremely tolerable, sweet, and kind boyfriend. His only problem is that he won't ever crack a book.
