Chapter 55 - Serene

Richard's POV

Maine is silent on our way back to Laguna, she has not uttered a single word since we left my in-laws house in Bulacan. I just let her have her own space, my way of giving her a little space because between the two of us, it is her who is more affected in the news. She chooses to sleep on the trip but I know that she is awake. For months that we are together in one room I can say when she is deeply asleep.

While we are enduring the usual tremendous traffic in EDSA, I could no longer control myself to ask her because I saw how restless she is during the trip.

"Love, I know gising ka. Tell me what's on you mind" I said

She opened her eyes and stares at me for a while. "Am I that bad to be given this kind of problem?" she asked

"Ano bang sinasabi mo? Why are you thinking that way?" I asked in return

"I saw how rude Tatay was to him that night. Naisip ko lang, sana hindi ko na lang sinungitan si Patrick during the contract signing event, baka hindi pa nya tayo binigyan ng ganitong problema" she replied

"Are you saying na kung naging mabait tayo sa kanya magiging mabait din sya sa atin?" I asked

"Honestly, hindi ko rin alam, benefit of the doubt lang kaya ko sinabi yun. Hindi ko kasi gets bakit nanggugulo sya ngayon. Alam mo ba yang si Patrick, he always wanted to prove his worth, he always wanted everyone to notice him, he always wanted to show people that he is the one in control" I said

"Tama si Tatay, he is one hell of a selfish jerk" I said

"Yes he is, and I can't imagine why am I so in love him then?" she said

I intentionally let her see how I smirk on what she just said. "I was too vulnerable then, tapos sya yung laging nandyan, can you blame me if I was blinded by those gestures?" She asked

"I'm not saying anything, wag kang magalit sa akin, hindi ako ang kalaban" I said smiling

"Yang facial expression mo kasi, kung nang-aasar ka pwes nagtagumpay ka kasi naasar ako" she said. I held her hand and kiss it

"Hindi ako nang-aasar, I was just happy that you realized how worthless that guy is" I said

She did not say anything but instead wraps her arms around mine and puts her head on my shoulder and I could hear and feel those deep sighs from her. She only removes her arms when the traffic light changes to green. I saw her took out her phone from her bag and make a call.

"Hello Rizza" I heard her said "Kakauwi nyo lang? We are on our way home, how's Celestine? Can I talk to her?" she asked

"Put it on speaker phone, I want to talk to her too" I said and Meng immediate did

"Hello Mommy" we heard Celestine's excitement from the other line

"Hello Baby, Daddy is here too" she said

"Hello Baby, we are on our way home" I said

"What did you do while we are gone?" Maine asked

"We went on camping with Lolo Ricky, we grilled hotdogs and marshmallow, but he sleeps in his room because only Tita Rizza and I can sleep in the tent. We could not accommodate him in our tent because it is too small for the three of us." Celestine replied

"Did you had a great time with Lolo Ricky and Tita Rizza, baby?" Meng asked

"Yes Mommy, can we do that at home too?" Celestine replied
