"Connie reached the car park when she noticed the familiar looking car that looked oddly out of place amongst the teachers cars and the almost empty car park.
Her stomach flipped as she recognized the car from the hospital, her legs moving without thought as she headed for the headteachers office.
As she approached she heard raised voices, she didn't knock as she opened the door to see Jacob in the corner of the room looking nothing short of terrified as his step dad moved towards him.
"Come on son, your coming home with us" he boomed as his mother fussed "it's for the best son".
"I don't want to, I don't want to come back with you" his eyes moving to the door as he spotted Connie.
Delighted to see her but terrified she would now take the attention and they would descend on her. "Jacob has clearly stated he doesn't want to come back with you" she spoke loudly and confidently.
Everyone spinning round to face her "This is nothing to do with you" his mother snapped. She turned back to face her son, "Come on this is getting silly, just come home so I know your okay" she asked holding her hand out to touch him.
"I can't mum, I won't I'm sorry" he spoke quietly staring at the floor.

"You heard him Mrs Masters" Connie interjected trying to move between them and Jacob. She felt this need to be close to him to fight his corner.
"Who asked you it's not your business" his mother hissed pushing her backwards.
"I think it is and remember I know why he is unwilling to return" she spoke seeing the honor flash across Jacobs mother's eyes.
"It's lies" she replied feebly.
"I don't think so Mrs Masters, now Jacob is of age to make his own decisions. He's obviously very keen on this one, and I think you ought to respect it" she slowly moved deeper into the room.

"What has it got to do with you" his step dad rounded on her, booming over her tiny frame.
"I'm aware how he ended up in hospital and I think it would be wise from here to let Jacob make up his mind about coming home"she spoke cooly.
"What lie has he told you" he hissed moving towards her. "Jacob tell her it's all lies" his mother pleaded seeing the situation escalating .
"It is true, I don't want to come home, respect that and leave or I will go to the police" he shouted.

This caught his step dads attention, "you wouldn't dare" he shouted back threateningly, "try me, leave me alone. I'm not coming home. If you choose to ignore it mum that's fine but I can't, and I just hope you protect my brother or sister better than me. I'm not coming home so just go" he shouted feeling his strength and determination recover as he stood a little straighter meeting Connie's fiery eyes.
His step dad and mother looked shocked at his definace, but to his total Suprise backed away and out through the door.

He slumped against the wall, she instinctively moved towards him.
"I'm so sorry that was my fault" Mr Jones began, checking himself as Connie reformed professional mode and pulled back from Jacob.
"It's okay sir, just don't let them on school grounds again without telling me please" he clutched his side painfully.
"Ok let's get you home" she began seeing Jacob flash her a look of warning.
"If you give me the address of where your staying Jacob I can take you" she amended her reaction.
"Thank you miss, that would be helpful I'm am very tired" he replied as he moved out into the hall as Connie lingered behind.

"I warned you, what were you thinking" her small frame against his large one as she began to raise her voice in anger, the headteacher sat before her unable to respond.
"I'm sorry" he shook his head trying to process it all. "I explained I also told you he didn't want to see her, that it would put him and his mother in danger.
Now you have just not only put everyone through that, but you have sent a scared and violent man back with his pregnant partner knowing that official staff know of the abuse. I just hope it doesn't have any other affects than the one in this office. To say it was poor judgement, would be an understatement" she finished curtly seeing his expression of sheer defeat and regret.

He sat silently unable to reply or justify himself as she moved from the office, helping Jacob to the car she was careful to watch they weren't followed finally helping him into the house.
They slumped onto the sofa together, "well make that 9 down to a 3" He groaned.
"It's only 4.30 , that gives me hours to reclaim ground, but first I think some rest. Come on upstairs" she smiled helping him up.
"But" he started to argue, placing her finger to his lips, "I'll get us a snack and some tea and I shall come and join you" she smiled watching his reaction change to one of compliance as he nodded.
He paused in the stairs, "you know you were bloody awesome back there, feels good having you on my side" he smiled tiredly.
She smiled, "I'm always in your side Muscles".
He took another step and paused again, "it was very sexy too" he winked. She laughed grinning at him, "get upstairs you" she chuckled moving in to the kitchen.
God this was a mess, but she couldn't help think she would never regret her decision.
